The Most And Least Dependable Cars

Every year, J.D. Power releases its Vehicle Dependability Study. They reveal who was best, but not the worst -- so we did that for you.

Worst SUV - Toyota FJ Cruiser

    MSRP: $26,880 - $28,470
    Invoice: $24,999 - $26,477
Fuel Economy: 17 mpg City, 20 mpg Highway

The Toyota FJ Cruiser seemed like a good idea. It was meant to be an homage to the old Toyota Land Cruiser of the 1970s, a Jeep-like, fun-to-drive beauty that was loved the world over.

But the FJ has always just been…well…awkward. Awkward and clunky to drive, park and see out of. The whole thing. It comes in pretty colors, but it's beastly to drive.

you can check out the best and worst here:

It's not that bad I don't think...I don't have any of those issues driving my wife's FJ. :notsure:

Plus, it's pretty much loaded. Hoping to get it as a new toy when she gets tired of it. :D

    Correct!

And seeing a ton of FJ's on the road makes sense they suck...

They may be but the Toyota Prius got the best compact which is direct competition with the Ford Focus, the Chevy Cruse and even more so with the Volt. Not to mention the Scion TC taking the crown of Sport Compact. Toyota Sienna is the best Mini-van so there doesn't seem to be much American bias there though I don't agree with it because I loved it when I drove a local dealer's FJ.

doesn't the fj share the same engine as the new 4runner? wouldn't that theoretically make the t4r suck too? I wouldn't mind driving either of I didn't didn't love tacos (all kinds)! :D

Maybe they should do a ranking on best off road capable SUV. They're probably just looking at it like any other Explorer, etc on the road. Kinda like the time the one publication rated the Ridgeline best truck ignoring what does their intended purposes best.

And no, current Runner uses the same engine as the FJ. Last Gen had an optional V8.

Bingo, great point or at least do a full CAPABILITY review.

I only read a few brief points about it like in the OP, nothing about its reliability, or its off road capability compared to its rival the Ford.

btw, Toyota had the majority of Best in class Wins of all the cars reviewed.

I kinda wish the Tacoma would start getting some shitty reviews... might be a little incentive for toyota to innovate.

Drove a dodge avenger rental in Maui 2 weeks ago. My father in law and I agreed it was a piece of crap. Handled like a tank, brakes were noisy as hell, terrible cargo space, noisy engine. Only had 8000 miles on it

The article does not say that the FJ is the worst SUV. Aol Autos says that it is the worst. JD just announced the best, the article even says that they did not announce the bottom of the list. Either way, JD Powers bases their ratings on user reviews, not just their opinion.

Whoever gets the number 1 spot is just the company who shelled out the most cash or 'free stuff' to the reviewer.
