My Inch Worm has made a similar noise since new.
One thing I noticed: my shifter is part of it. While driving, I can move the shifter around slightly and the noise quiets down a bit. For me, it's the actual shifter resonating noise from the 4HI shift rod.

Could that be what you're hearing?

Mine does bother me... I've been thinking of a way to 'dip' the tip of the shifter in a Teflon based material to eliminate the noise transfer.

It functions properly regardless. No bearing issues at all. Everything has been re-built so that isn't the issue.

    Good luck with that.

Any metal flakes in the fluid? If not I would not worry about it. You can also try thicker gear oil. My lefty/dual case makes all kind of racket, thicker gear lube and a louder stereo fixed that problem.

What kind of shrink tube did you use?
I thought of that but was wondering if it would peel and get into the case oil and possibly plug up something?

Do you have twin sticks? I am contemplating going that route. May look at the shrink tube idea for that when I make the change.

    Thanks.

    Ahh, gotcha.
I was referring to the round tip at the end of the shifter under the base plate.
I modified my shift handle moving it forward. The weight pushes that tip back against the shift rod which is the source of the noise transfer. If I pull back slightly, the noise is quieter but still there.

Hmm, mine isn't loud, just there.

When you change the oil, any gunk or metallic pieces?

Have you read the thread on TTORA started by Phil?

Without going into details, he did a lot of research and found there was a bearing issue with some cases built in a period of time.

    Perhaps that's your problem, dunno.

I'll dig it up and post here.

Here it is! This video and post from NorcalPR Phil from TTORA:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJCwPSAEfGw

This is with the stock t-case in low range, and the tranny shifting from 3-5. The Whining is normal, it's the crackling/rattling sound that sounds like a loose shifter...
I had to have the stock t-case in low range, otherwise I'd be driving faster and the road noise is too loud. The crawl box still makes noise at gears between 3-5...

Mine sounds pretty much just like that. Has that same exact whine and when shifting gears then accelerating had a slight Metallic type whine.

I'm wondering if.. I have an A340F auto trans, would it whine if I had the manual trans?

There is another question to seek answers to, does anyone with an auto trans and 4.7 Lefty have this issue?

    Good luck.

... I'm assuming you have a gear driven case?
