Because there is fluid in it and it could eventually leak, seals dry out etc. Still a better option than the corkscrew thing that comes factory.

It's a better jack for sure. I'm just not sure I want it in the cab when it starts leaking..... of course the plastic tray he had it in may catch all of it. I don't know if there are holes in that tray that the hydraulic oil would leak out of and into the carpet.

You'll get years of use and storage before it even has a chance of leaking. It shouldn't be an issue.

Maybe, maybe not, it's just a hydraulic jack with o-rings.... but time of service ain't the point.

The concern I raised is that when it does leak, if you store it in that compartment, will it become a big mess?

Would you like to have a jack that can sufficiently lift up the truck and get the wheels off the ground with a slight possibility it will leak down the road, or not be able to lift up the truck at all, but have a possible clean interior compartment/carpet? Those are the options.

Ha yeah, my truck is mostly stock due to money though. Case in point ive got newer rims from a 3rd gen been sitting in my garage for over a year, cant afford the tires. Maybe with the tax return. I haven't gone and lifted and done a bunch of stuff to it that never gets used as intended though that what you see with a lot of jeeps and Tacoma too. Some not all though. I washed my truck like 3 times last year. I tow and haul with it a good bit. I ain't no waxer lol.

Really? You got a big bed in the back for dirty things. Maybe you could place the jack in a bag that resists hydraulic oil and place it in the compartment. Maybe you have a toolbox to stick it in.

I was making a point that one who goes this route may want to take appropriate precautions.

Now you have the potential of thieves to steal your tools, especially if you don't work a job where you already have a toolbox. Ain't nobody got time for that.

Also, what kind of jacks/tools are you using that moderate use and storage leads to jacks leaking and breaking seals? It's not a big deal like you're making it out to be man.

He's not really making it a big deal. Just making it aware of the possibility of a leak. Maybe it doesn't need to be said, but people in general aren't that smart sometimes. That's why we have so many warning labels.. Of course your hot coffee is hot..

    Tldr;
Hydraulic Jacks can and do leak sometimes. Take note, assess if you're OK with a mess or take precautions. End of story.

O-rings, seals, etc suffer degradation from age, thermal cycling, chemical reaction, etc. It doesn't have to be worked hard to have an issue, eventually the seal will fail and need to be replaced. Sometimes those pumps come with a seal replacement kit for the release spindle just for that reason. I would just take some type of precaution like sticking the jack in a big Ziploc bag, but that doesn't mean you have to.

Unless you have never used a jack or any tool (hydraulic or otherwise), this should be common knowledge. I understood what both of what you were saying, but I didnt think it was necessary to even bring it up because, well it should be common knowledge and inherently understood. That's all I'm saying...

    bumping old thread.

Does the extensions fit on the factory jack?
    Was watching this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaXFGksUvTU

I just measured the factory jack head is 1 1/2", what I'm not sure is if they mean the extension part is 1 1/4" or that the bell end that goes on the jack is 1 1/4
But if the factory jack is the same size I'm thinking of just ordering an extension and the axle cup thing from safejack. Just to keep in the truck, once I'm lifted it will still work for if I ever get a flat, will still keep the hi lift with me on the trails though.

Not sure if I can get away with the 6ton one or need to go to the 12ton https://safejacks.com/collections/bottle-jack-accessories/products/adapter-for-12-ton-bottle-jacks

just to have this https://safejacks.com/products/axle-tube-pad-for-bottle-jack?variant=1195547129 for the rear axle would make it a hell of a lot more comforting to use the factory jack in an emergency

I'm not sure but I don't think so. You may need to use that little plastic collar they sell to make the diameter of the jack the same as the bits.

ya I just measured it better and checking their site.
Looks like the 12ton stuff will fit
    "Fits 12 ton jacks with 1.69" - 1.72" ram (43 - 44mm)"

Factory jack measured 41mm, so a slightly loose fit but should be fine.

    So ended up emailing them.
Supposedly they have an adaptor that's designed to work with our factory jack, that then can work with all their attachments.
