I wasn't there for that, but damn if that wasn't an epic recovery.

Yeah but they are inherently more dangerous if you are at all distracted...Say by oncoming traffic as I have been in the past while having to look for oncoming traffic to be able to get out of the way in case a vehicle is about to Ram into me.

need to be smart about it. get to a safe place if at all possible. changing a tire on the side of a freeway is dangerous no matter what kind of jack you are using.

I'm not dissing on hi lifts, like I said I will be getting one once I get my sliders from SOS Concepts but I just need something for the paved roads.

Easier said than done. It all depends on where you live and where you work and where you commute.

For commuting or mainly for working on stuff on the weekends? In the mean time, I would gather some solid 2x4s as others have suggested.

Yeah that's what I had thought about before posting but I just figured I'd ask to see if there's something else out there that won't have me carrying some four by fours.

I can agree and I know its not ideal, but if I have to inch 5-10 ft on a flat I will do it if it can marginally affect my safety, but Im also on 35s so I might have some more rubber than you.

There are those who are a public menace with a Dixon #2 pencil in their hands.

    Others can disarm bombs safely.

    One should know their limitations.

I'm golden with just the HiLift.

Im with ya here. I will risk trashing my tire / wheel in order to get to a safe place to change a tire every day.

Just get a 4x4 and cut a 4" chunk off of it, making a small 4" cube. That's all you'll need and won't take up much space.

I replaced my stock jack with a hydraulic bottle jack with a little extra extension length, but still fits in the stock location. I also carry a couple 2x4x6 pieces of scrap oak (harder than pine) that can go under the jack, or between the frame/axle and the jack. That gets things high enough to change a tire if needed.
