Not sure. Found her in a rescue that said she was a Husky. Due to her size and temperment, I'm thinking Shepard/Malamute. She's the strongest dog I have ever seen she can almost drag my 250lb ass if she sees something she wants to go after. A lot of people also think Shepard/Wolf but I doubt it, too interested in humans to be a hybrid.

When labs put their noses to the ground and get low, they can be hard to stop. Our 13 year old is a good 70 lbs and can still pull like he's a 2 year old lab full of adrenaline.

I'm on the fence about getting my kids a dog. I would love to get a chocolate lab, but I fear my kids love the "idea" of the dog, until they need to walk it, feed it, clean it, and clean up after it.

I cannot remember when or where I read that the chocolate lab is considered the "crazy" one of the labs. They're still great dogs, and I wouldn't hesitate to own one, but I believe what I read also stated that they are the harder ones to train and own.

As for your kids...how old are they? My girls wanted "their own" dog. I wouldn't get them one until they were 10 years old. They started out great, but as they got to around 13 to 17 years old, they were more interested in teenager things. So many arguments occurred in regards to feeding, baths, walking, clean up, etc. The dogs "became mine" during those years. Now my girls are 23 and 19. They are great with the dogs.

Do a lot of research on what type of dog to get. You'll find tons of info that you can read up on to see if the dog will match your lifestyle (super important). Also, don't hesitate on a rescue or shelter dog. We have two that are rescues (a border collie/akita mix and a shepherd/Rhodesian mix). Amazing dogs.

I also have this thing when getting a dog...let the dog pick you and the kids. A dog/puppy knows if they want to be part of your family right from the start

    **Sorry for the long post.**

No need to be sorry, those are all great reasons. My kids are 12 and 7. I think they would do "ok" with some of the tasks, but as they get older I know they won't. I wasn't that great with my dog when I was a kid, and as I became a teenager he was the last thing I was thinking about.

Border Collie's are on the top of my list as well, but again I need to research things more. It may just not be in the cards to own a dog. It's a huge responsibility and we always have places to go and things to do, so maybe my wife is right... we should just stick with fish.

Yeah...If you guys are always on the run or taking trips where dogs aren't always welcome, having an active dog is not a great thing. They will tear up your house. Literally.

Our collie/Akita is an amazing dog. Super smart and very protective. It can get annoying because he always wants to herd you (collie) when he thinks you're in danger (Akita). So when anyone is swimming, he wants to drag you out of the pool. People swimming drives him nuts.

Yup that is how I was as a kid, begged and begged for a dog. Finally at like age 12 or so we got a black lab. Had him for maybe 3 weeks before my parents gave him to the neighbors cause I was supposed to do everything and got over it quick I guess.
Love my dog as an adult but seems like it would be a hit or miss if kids would actually do all the work or get sick of it real quick lol

Yup teenager things were def more important to me for sure. And yes don't get a chocolate lab just cause they look the best ( the do lol)
They are the hardest to train and stubborn as hell. Ours is almost 5 and I worked with her a lot as a puppy and growing up and she is still stubborn. She has completed 3 training lessons (puppy, intermediate, and advanced) and still i don't trust taking her leash off outside and her not bolt and not come when I call her. She won't walk on a leash good and I have spent so much time trying for that. They are def hard to train but you can tell she knows what she is supposed to do. I tell you what though labs are just the most loving and sweet family dogs.

My lab has always done that while swimming. I never understood it. If we are at the beach she will literally go it and grab people's bathing suits and start dragging them to shore. It gets rather annoying.

    LOL
If you sit by the edge of the pool, with your arms out on the deck, he will walk up to you and gently grab your shoulder. If your arms are in the pool and you're leaning up back against the pool wall, he'll start licking your head and nudge you with his nose. When swimming laps, he's frantically running around the pool, whining and yelping.
