Update: Engine mounts were welded in last night. Note to anyone doing a 5vz swap: ***They needed to be pushed back 1".

Made some progress today. Got the motor seated, and most of the vacuum lines attached. Got a lot of the electrical hooked up too.

Update: finished the vacuum lines. I didn't realize how interesting it would be to re-route the lines, bypassing the stock ADD system on the '96 parts truck. Less vacuum line, less failures, right?

IMG_0984.jpg Got some goodies today. I got some stickers from Low Range Off-road. The first is a new 3400 v6 sticker for the timing cover, and the other is a super cool e-locker sticker for the door panel. Also, got my SPC UCAs in today.

Update: spent most of today working on this. Finished a big chunk of the project. Got the tranny mounted. Because we moved the engine mounts back 1", the tranny bolted in perfectly. The starter was installed. Fuel lines run. Figured out that because my original a/c system was aftermarket, the lines were different. We got the power steering lines pulled from the parts truck, and will put them in tomorrow.

The TO do list as of now:
    Plumb clutch
    Plumb power steering
    Put oil in
    Transfer case
    Driveshafts
    Radiator
    Fluids/hosing
    Button up a few details.

    Almost there guys!

Today, I attempted to test-fire the motor. Went to start it. Nothing. Forgot a Ground. Oops. It cranked, but no start. Looked like the cylinders got flooded. Let them dry out. Now it only runs for 2-3 seconds before dying out. Great...

On a good note, all that's left is:
    •bleed clutch
    •burp coolant
    •attach transfer case
    •driveshafts
    •exhaust

    And later a/c. Almost there.

Any ideas on why it won't stay running for more than 2 seconds?

May sound stupid, but I would just check all the basics: fuel, air, and spark. Then narrow it down to what your not getting. Maybe a fuel issue?
    Edit: crossed spark wires?

I can check that stuff. It does run, but only when the key is held in start and the starter is engaged.

I would guess an ignition issue

IMG_1001.jpg Looks like I was wrong, and the body harness is different. Looks like I'm going to learn how to re-pin ecus. Luckily, a very helpful soul on on Facebook did the hard part for me. The Toyota community rocks!

Update: according to a very extensive pin guide for the body harness plug (E-5), there are 3 extra wires from the 3rz harness that are left over with the 5vz harness:

    Nsw: ignition switch/starting relay.

    Sta: starter cranking signal input

    Fc: circuit opening relay.

    Damn, I'm confused.
