I like the new wheels. Nice wheeling spot too. Good to see there’s moisture somewhere out here in the SW

BC332756-5DEB-46F7-9A6E-501D80386EDE.jpg Finally got around to doing the 199mm Tundra brake upgrade. Some notes:

    1) no modifications had to be made. Which was odd... okay, so maybe I had to re-route the brake lines, but never had to cut the dust shield. Odd.

    2) it is a decent difference, but not as noticeable as the bigger brake upgrade (23something).

    3) still have my hard pedal. No master cylinder change required.

    4) the new calipers are very similar sized to the old ones...slightly larger. The rotors are massive compared to the old ones. (Pictured) (old on the bottom, new on top. The diameter is noticeably larger, but the thickness is probably 2x larger).

Overall, wish I would have found the bigger tundra brakes, but these will do for the mean time. Definitely an upgrade tho, and am glad to have finally gotten rid of my cracking rubber lines.

Okay folks. Moab was a blast. Most recognizable trail was “Top of the World”. Trails off-road rates it a 7-8 out of 10 difficulty. Definitely gave the ol taco a workout. Lots of ledges to climb up. Used the locker a couple of times for kicks. The view at the top was worth every bump that the skid plate acquired. Also, did a river crossing across the Delores. Overall, fun time! That being said, I had to immediately order a set of Dakar Leaf springs, as my truck hit the rear bump stops loaded with camping gear. Stoked to get those installed soon. Hugo at Toytec is the man. Check out my Instagram to see videos from the trip. @rippstik

From what I have read the the Tundra 199 rotor is the same width as the Tacoma rotor but a lot thicker.
So warping would probably not be an issue so much anymore. The calibers are a little larger as you said but not as large as the new type Tundra calipers so maybe that’s why you didn’t have the soft pedal issues and the trimming part because the height is the same as the stock tacoma just wider,

I did notice that something is warped probably a week after doing this. Not sure if it’s the front or back brakes. Probably going to do both. Also, since Moab, tbe steering has an odd squeak while turning. This will also be addressed.

Finally, picked up some Dakar springs and extended rear brake lines. Maybe I’ll do all of this in one go. To be continued.

Also, random side note. Almost got a Toyota Trekker project, but it was sold before I could get a deposit on it. If anyone knows of a Toyota Trekker for sale in CO or surrounding states, hit me up!

Did so, because my truck was squatting carrying all of my camping gear to Moab. It rides MUCH better than the factory leafs with the add a leaf. Hoping the springs settle a tiny bit in the future.

I also have the CBI frame plates. It's awesome when an off-road modification also improves on-road behavior. Any aftermarket bumper that replaces the flimsy OEM front bumper/crossmember assembly makes a big difference, too. My little regular cab used to feel really unstable in crosswinds when it was stock, and would shimmy all over the place if I hit bumps or pavement irregularities. Now with frame plates and a winch bumper it feels really solid and predictable even with skinny tires and no sway bar.

If you have a rear swing out bumper, it’s a huge difference!

I'll build one eventually. Using the frame plates to reinforce a rusted out section behind my passenger side shock mount, figured if I'm gonna do the prep work for plating anyway, might as well strengthen the whole thing. Did you have enough access without pulling the bed off?

Yup. Just take the back tires off and you have great access to the outside of the frame.

Forgot to take pics, but the taco now has fresh OEM lower ball joints and tie rods. Passengers side was easy. The drivers side broke the drivers side CV axle. Oops. Guess I’m rebuilding those now...
