Not for long. Domestic Outbacks and Legacys are all made in Indiana and have been for a while. On top of that they're supposed to start Impreza production at SIA sometime this year.

I had a salesman tell me he was checking to see when the spec (7545) I wanted would "come across the ocean from the factory". Groan.

I said: "...wow, are they taking the long way around South America to the West Coast?"

Salesman: "Yes, but unfortunately none are on the way".

(I paused) "Sir, what I mean is the trucks are built in either Texas or Baja, Mexico".

Salesman: "Let me check there as well." (pause) "Nope, no 7545's available in the Texas or Baja regions either! Want to special order at MSRP?"

    Me: (groan) "No."

I really do miss driving manual. Had an Evo X, Mazdaspeed 3 for a while. Only reason I got the automatic is so my GF can drive it if needed. Shes not the best at manual and I didnt want to risk burning out the clutch.

The guy is a dumbass. Alot of salesmen are drug addicts and don't know anything. At least every salesman I deal with seems to be.

Toyota hasn't made a truck in Japan for USDM since 1998.

My 2009 4cyl 5speed has a 5... VIN, made in the US. He's a salesman so everything he says is suspect.

The GF and I have a deal, once we can afford a g'damn house in Southern California, we are going to buy another car (used) most likely an Evo/STI and build a track car. I made her sign a contract stating that lol, I think its on a post-it note somewhere.

    Life advice

Never buy a house with gf . Buy with wife, or buy in your name only.

    Good luck

California is a community property state, it's a scary concept.

I rather not drive than drive a manual in traffic around my parts.

There are plenty of ways to solidify to make sure spouse gets nothing . Just like estate planning it has to be thought of carefully, pre planned.

Scarier in WA is paying for child support for other people's kids...

Washington is a community property state too. I believe there are only 5 community property states. Oregon is not one.

Toyotas sold in Canada/USA that are still made in Japan:

    4Runner
    Land Cruiser
    Mirai
RAV4 (All Hybrids and some non-hybrids)
    Prius
    Prius C
    Prius V
    All Scions except iA
    All Lexus except RX

It is likely that the manual transmission itself is made in Japan, but Tacomas are all made in Texas or Mexico.

Country of origin doesn't mean crap if the factories/suppliers build to exact QC guidelines.

    Well said.

My parents Accords had been built in Ohio for almost 25 years I believe. They all lasted 275-300K, and were replaced by another Accord.

The Honda Fit that are being built in MX these days, have had lots of teething problems.

My M/T was built in Texas. After they are done building the 2016 model year there might be data available as to the ratio of auto vs. M/T. Until then it's a guess. I would assume the salesman just made something up so you would not keep asking. When I was shopping for mine both the DM and Ames dealerships had not sold a single M/T (again according to the salesman; I believed the Ames guy, not the one in DM).

That isn't a card I'd want to play. Subaru's have well documented issues.
