Get an appropriate size plug, smear a bead of epoxy around it and stuff it in the hole. Cut a piece of metal screen, put it overlapping the plug and tank and smear all of it with epoxy. Should get you by for a while until you find a new tank.

Probably the best method, though I believe OP has a plastic gas tank so he'd need a version of this for plastics.

I appreciate y'alls responses, I just ended up having thr truck sit until the Long Range Automotive tank came on the slow boat from down under. Decided it wasn't worth the stress of whatever patch I ended up using failing and potentially making me a bit more crispy than desired. From the last few months of driving, the new tank is great and thankfully I didn't have to fill up much when gas hit stupid highs. The true test will be my 1800 mile trip to Montana this week. Hopefully it's "worth it" lol....

FYI, plastic welders (at least the ones Ive used) are just soldering irons with broad flat tips. (I wouldnt use them around anything with a listed flash point.)
They are essential for patching a polyethylene canoe after bashing it one too many times on the rocks. :anonymous: For fiber resins (such as gas tanks and truck beds), they won't be a good repair solution.

I always say there ain't much in the world you can't fix with a little duct tape, a hammer, and some JB Weld. But a gas tank might be one of them. If you use any kind of sealer or epoxy use some fine metal screen to provide a matrix for it to hold to across the hole opening. Lowes sells a LocTite brand epoxy specifically for plastic that might be better for the tank, but I am not sure it resists gasoline. Need to check the fine print. Maybe also look at marine epoxies. Best to just get a new tank. Obviously.

So….was this some type of petty revenge by an ex or someone stealing gas? Also wondering where the,” get a gas tank skid to prevent possibly happening in future” Crowd is at .

In reality, just glad to see OP got rolling again.

To quote Garth Brooks "All my exes live in Texas..." so it was prolly some crackhead needing gas because he spent all his cash on dumb shit. Jokes on him. He probably got like 3 gallons of gas at most. The LRA tank is metal so at the very least it'll take the fuckers longer next time.
