I’m out right now but I’ll take a peek at mine as soon as I get home. That doesn’t seem normal, but I’ll verify.

    Thanks Randall!!!!

Marlin (from JBA) did respond to my initial email and said:

    Robert,

Is that at ride height or when the truck is on a jack or vehicle lift?

    Thanks
    Marlin Gehman

So I responded to his email with the recent pics above that I asked you to look at and posted the comments that were included with them from here on the forum.

I know Marlin is very responsive so likely we will hear from him tonight, and if not, early tomorrow.

I think I’m going to take my entire coilover assembly out then connect everything else back up and cycle it up and down a bunch and see what tendencies the boot has.

Also a great way to clearance for larger tires. You can shove it all the way up, crank it left and right and see where it rubs.

I would imagine not, take the wheel off and remove from spindle. Undo 4 top bolts replace. I just have zero tools and am always to worried about breaking something.

Looks like mine closed up a bit but there is still a small opening that you can't see in the pictures. First one is the passenger side after I wiped off the grease and the other one was the driver side before wiping. Just noticed that there is grease coming out of the top side of the ball joint on both sides. Anyone seen this before?

    Lots of sail boat fuel
I just did mine this past weekend. Squeezed some extra grease out of it to make room for the boot, drove around , it settled back in. That boot is stiff enough where it slid back in. Guessing it was just from jacking it up.

For the future though, I'm greasing that zerk on the ground next time, before I put it on the jack to do the rest

Loosened the cam bolts and upper sheer bolt to get an idea of the full potential droop and this is the resulting spring clearance and boot coverage.

Here is Marlins response in it's entirety:

    Hi Robert,

The angle is going to vary based on ride height of the vehicle.

The higher you lift the vehicle the more the angle the arms are on and the ball joint will be on a steeper angle as well.

Example: This is ride height on my 4runner at 2.0” lift on the front.

My ball joint frame is about level with the top edge of my ball joint boot. If you take and lift my truck two more inches it would look like the pictures below.

So vehicles with bigger lifts will see the edge of the boot and the edge of the ball joint housing.

This is fine and normal for a bigger lift.

    Grease flow:

The flow of grease is from top of joint to bottom and out the top edge of boot.

If particles get in the boot they will not flow up in the socket, they will stick in the grease be low the ball and get pushed down from the ball and out over the edge of the boot with the next few pumps of grease.

    I hope this is heplful.

    Thanks

    Marlin Gehman

So it sounds to me like Marlin is saying that what you all are experiencing is normal and you (we) shouldn't be worried about the potential for failure.
