May have missed it but any reason you only got a year out of the ball joints? What's been the average life for everyone so far?

 

He was replacing them all for free as the Clear Coat was failing and they were rusting after 6 months

Exactly brother real confused as to what caused it.

 

Than will probably be the plan after Winter as they have a few coats of clear bed liner on it for now. Should hold up through Winter I hope.

 

I don't think Fluid Film was the problem here. Fluid Film is lanolin based, a waxy grease that comes from wool bearing animals, it contains no solvents and should not react with paint, especially powder coat which is almost like a thin plastic coating.

Also on the topic of powder coat, I used to work at a manufacturing place that had powder coating capability so I had some brackets for my old truck coated. It's a tough coating for sure but when it does get breached it seems to start separating from the surface allowing water to penetrate and rust. It's like it has poor adhesion to the substrate, but that is likely just due to improper surface prep. That's probably why some of the UCA are chipping, just a minor oversight in prep. Just my guess. I assume Marlin subs out the coating so he doesn't have direct control of the QC during the process.

 

Are LCA bushing on the site somewhere? Couldn't find em.

 

Energy suspension, which are a pain to install and white line are the only two poly replacements I know of for the LCA's

 

I'm kickin around the idea of doing Delrin to have a smooth and trouble free LCA performance. Some of the long travel guys are running em.

The Caps where you get to the zerks were seized, boots torn etc etc etc.

 

After only one year?

 

Yup needed a chisel and hammer to get them off.

 

They weren't re-buildable? Or you just decided to junk them? Ball joint variant not the uniball right?

 

Ball Joint and dumped them for 200.00

Only two things I found so far. Kinda like universal builder parts but I wonder if the dimensions work out I can get ones slightly oversized and machine them down. Or just buy a 4’ rod and make em all.
