    Nice try. ;)

Dropping in a used 3.4 (30k miles) and slapping the supercharger on it. My truck will have actually found a fountain of youth. New motor will have 20k less miles than mine. The rest of the money will go towards aforementioned photo. :D

Oh you can bet your ass I was considering a V8 swap. It's just this completely fucked up state of CA we live in. The V8 idea beget several problems though.

    1) My truck is an 04. According to CA smog law if you do a motor swap, you must install a motor of the same year or newer. 1uz stopped production in the US in 2000...so assed out with that. I can do a 2uz (like in my Tundra) but that has a cast iron block instead of aluminum and I'd prefer to drop the weight since I'm already 4wd. The 3uz is really only good option, but they are NOT cheap and begets problem 2

    2) There is no belhousing adapter out there (short of custom fab work) to mate a 1uz/2uz/3uz to a R150F manual transmission. Nothing even close. Belive me...I've looked. Best you can do is to use A340F auto transmission belhousing and have an adapter plate to mate the auto transmission bellhousing to the 150R transmission...and custom throwout bearing setup, custom clutch, custom flywheel..... BIG bucks!!!

    3) Only two guys I've read of that have done the swap, are running a body lift...and could not have done the swap without one. No thanks. Body lifts are not my cup of tea.

Give me a few weeks and then revist the thread to decide.

I know I know. Rookie mistake. Worse then a wheel falling off on the freeway. Oh well...I guess that's why we pay for insurance.

Every time I park my truck on the east side something ends up missing :D

Got off work a little early today so decided to get this thing started. Cleaned out the garage a bit and parked the Tacoma where's its going to remain the next couple weeks.

Removed the skids, front bumper, fenders, hood, driveshafts, shifters, battery, starter, drained the transmission and transfer case fluids, and pulled the engine harness out from the cab.

Apparently there is a volumetric limit to the amount of water a Tacoma can consume before it completley goes to shit. My truck met that limit and the supercharger proceeded to force more water into the belly of the beast. End result is what is commonly reffered to as hydrolocking.

What pray tell does that mean for the motor? Well you can google yourself what hydrolocking means, but in the end I broke one of the connecting rods...and then made baby pieces of connecting rod in the oil pan and poked a hole out the side of the block. Despite the violent action, the truck still runs. It's running on 5 cylinders, but I drove it right up into the garage (leaking oil the whole way).

I cannot just let things sit. It's all about do it and do it now!

Litterally everything is off the now. Grill, radiator and hoses, A/C compresser, power steering pump, cat, transfer case, transmission, clutch, intake, and every fucking wire, vacuum line, fuel line and hose is labeled and disconnected. The only thing holding it in the engine bay are the 4 bolts on the motor mounts and a 2x4.

The wife had to help with the jacks to pull the transmission off while I manhandled it, but other than that a completely solo operation. Spent about 6 hours total today.

And if anyone is planning on removing their transmission, I hope you have a wealth of extensions. I needed this magic combination of tools to get to the very top bolt on the bellhousing.

By far that top bolt was really the only PITA part about this (and actually dropping the transmission/transfer case). I love my wife, but she doesn't take directions very well when it comes to mechanical things. "Pull the jack" does not mean lower it while I'm under it.

Who's up for some chocolate milk? Well over 7 quarts of "fluid" drained out of the oil pan.

And Jacob, if you are reading this, I will for sure need some help putting in the transmission if you're up for getting dirty. It won't be going back in for a couple weeks though. And if you have a motorcycle jack by chance, that might help things significantly.

Thanks but the only skills I possess are a hatred for mechanics and the ability to read. I cannot stand taking my vehicles to someone else to work on. I know that those bastards don't give a shit about my truck and will not put the same amount of effort and thought in it that I would.

That being said, I've never removed a motor from a car/truck in my life. Well I take that back. I helped my dad drop a motor out of a VW Bug when I was 11 but I'd hardley call it helping. I more or less just fetched tools, kept the beer flowing, and lit his joints. Either way, the I read through the factory service manual before I decided to tackle this on my own and it's pretty descriptive. Armed with an impact wrench and a stack of papers, it really was not as hard as one might think.

I'll have the motor in for sure in the next few weeks. Given my substantual progress today, I'll be waiting on the shipping company for my motor to arrive.

I do have a few other new and improved parts that I'm trying to get done before mid August. :spy: As long as everything goes as planned, I should be good for jamboree.

Yeah I know what hydrolocking is and everything. I was talking more about how you got water there. I will for sure give you a hand just keep me updated as to when since I work graveyard shift. I don't have a motorcycle jack or anything, but I have a regular jack and stands if that helps.

Ahh. I misunderstood your question. I left Pismo at the wrong time (high tide). A combination of that, a 7 foot wind swell, and the gnarly amount of snow melt made the river crossing insane. I decided to chance it and it didn't work out. I have no fenderliners (cause of the fiberglass fenders). Without the liners, my tires become scoops and litterally scooped the water into the intake tube. That tube will be coming compltely off before the new motor is going in.

As always, thanks for the offer buddy. I'll let you know what's going on when the new motor arrives.

MJ's future father in law hooked me up good this morning. He let me borrow the engine hoist, a engine stand, and a transmission jack adapter. Super cool family. I'm sure MJ is getting the better deal with that relationship. :D (j/k)

Anyway, motor is out. The engine hoist is a beast, but even at the highest setting, the oil pan was still about an inch too low to clear the front crossbracing. I ended up dropping the air pressure in the front tires to 10 psi and was able to wiggle the motor out.

Well there's your problem! Rod poked a hole clean through the side of the block. No chance in hell to rebuild that.
