I'm looking at a new 2011 Double Cab TRD Off-Road.
As someone else described in another thread, I'm somewhere between "don't care" and "audiophile" and I won't be getting an aftermarket upgrade.

Will I notice a difference between the stock sound system and the JBL Audio?

    Thanks,
    Dave

Depends on what you are wanting. If you are a big stereo guy then don't get it. It sounds fine for me, but if you're looking to wake your neighbors in the middle of the night then don't get it. I love mine but I'm not into all that anymore.

Get a truck w/o it and put your own system in it.

I agree! I have the JBL setup and it's not all that. Yes, it provides an extra "little" thump but it's still not worth it. But ultimatey in the end it's your choice. Good luck.

i like mine. its loud enough for me. no its not a window shattering boom boom but its got enough boom boom for me. my advice would be to get in that truck and crank it up and see if it works for your wants needs and desires.

If you're not into playing with sound systems, the JBL piece is nice. I tested both and bought one with it. It sounds decent for a stock system and I didn't want to bother putting an aftermarket system in.

You will notice the JBL sound quality most playing a CD or Ipod. I really like mine. My last truck had all high end audio that was aftermarket like JL and MB quart.

But I like that the JBL was all installed clean at the factory, no one has been into the wiring or cutting.

The JBL unit is better than the stock/standard but really you're not getting anything more than a CD changer option. Does it have some extra "oomph" - I'm not quite sure. But both systems are pretty lame when it comes to having any real power and then too, you don't have satellite - that's going to cost a chunk of change extra to add on. But if you just want a passable unit, for the money and with it already being there, I wouldn't kick it out. Use it for awhile and see if after awhile you want to get serious.

Mine has the basic 6 CD w/Sat. and sounds decent enough to me. My last car had Bose Premium sound, Bluetooth etc. and I don't miss the options much. Some would notice it right away and pay the +3k for JBL.

OP, do you ever plan on upgrading the system in the future?

Dave, I have a 2011 double cab with the JBL upgrade and have already replaced the door speakers. I had only planned on adding sound dampening material to the doors once I got in there but then I saw this...

That is one of the the rear door speakers, yes the tiny part that is not even three inches across is what is there in the rear door. Once I saw that I decided that I was replacing those speakers and went with some mid-grade JL Audio speakers in all four doors and am more than satisfied. I do like the steering wheel audio and telephone controls and am glad to have that feature but other than that the rest is somewhat unimpressive. Regardless, hope you end up with exactly what you want.

I also couldn't decide to go JBL or aftermarket so I went to the dealer and listen to one. Along with my ipod I downloaded a digital copy of The Who "Eminence Front" turned up the volume and was satisfied.

Since you have no plans to upgrade to an aftermarket system, I say get the JBL system. I think it sounds much fuller than the stock system.

You could also have a jam up aftermarket installed for the price of the JBL system.

My '08 has the JBL and I think its a step up from the basic setup. Unfortunately I don't have the Aux or XM, but CDs sound great.

A question tho: if I have Wet Okoles and wondered if they will reduce the effectiveness of the sub...? It doesn't seem to be super strong...

I think the system sounds good, much better than I have ever had in any other vehicle.

You can get a better aftermarket system but I am very happy with the jbl system as far as sound quality goes.
