Knowing the way dealers mark things up the way they do, I'm sure that you could get a kick ass aftermarket system that is x2 as good as the jbl

Wow in 05 It cost me 250.00 more and I am very pleased with it. I would do it again if I was going to buy again, but not for 1100.00.

    Here is some info...

Yup, I personally (and I don't hang with those crowds) have never heard an aftermarket that sounds any good at all. Usually just cobbled together junk. A lot of time was put into the OEM stereo. You can't just go big and make it better. You really need to know what you're doing. That's why I went to an audio shop..

But wow is it really an 1100 dollar option? I'll just wear headphones!

I guess it all depends on what type of aftermarket stuff you get. If the aftermarket stuff you hear is junk than the equipment is crap or the installation is crap. If you get quality equipment than it should sound great. You get what you pay for!

I hate the quality of my audio, im not even big into audio, but i cant stand maxing out my volume to hear talk radio or whatever. me spending money on replacing mine should be a testament, but i realize everyone has an opinion. I think the audio/stereo is the worst part of the truck which is good bc it can easily be swapped.

    Welcome from Ohio.

JBL vs. aftermarket discussion = :deadhorse:

I am not flaming you, OP, but this issue is so subjective that it's hard to give good advice.

It comes down to a couple things with the JBL:

If you are a high-end audio guy, get the basic radio and replace it with the components of your choice. Otherwise, you will never be happy with anything but top-of-the-line.

If you want a very good quality factory truck radio get the JBL.

I got the JBL as an after thought because I wanted the bluetooth, and they were packaged together.

I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the system. I highly recommend it.

Ideally, if you could find one on a lot you could compare and decide. But I hear it is hard to find one in stock.

Either way, good luck with your decision... ;)

Just to clarify, I have the JBL with bluetooth and it was 700 bucks for me. That's a 2011.

EDIT: I just went to the build-a-Toyota option and it is now $805.00 more
