    Hi all,

New to the forum so forgive me if there is a thread for this buried somewhere, my search skills just might not have found it.

I'm in the market for a 3rd gen at the moment and my searches for the right price point and trim options are all leading me to TRDORs with the premium + tech package that have the JBL audio. Having test driven a few of them, the sound is pretty good compared to what I'm used to, but I want to know if there's any information on removing the JBL subwoofer behind the seats.

Most of the threads I've found are concerning upgrading the sub/amp, but I'm more keen on the storage capacity that the subwoofer takes away. So is there any information on converting this area to a normal storage option?

    Thanks in advance

Remove the trim panel behind the seat, unbolt the sub box, unbolt the amp from the sub box, find new place for the amp, buy non-sub version of the panel, install it.

The panel has 10mm bolts and clips holding it in. You have to take out the drivers side first, then the passenger side can come out. You dont need to remove the rear seat, but it makes it a bit easier to work.

Its going to cost about $400 for the non-jbl panel from a dealer, maybe less from a online dealer or from someone selling their panels.

The biggest issue your going to run into is finding a new place for that amp, the non-sub versions of the panels go right up to the wall, so there is no place to put the amp. You could cut and lengthen the wire harness for the amp and place it under one of the front seats.

Just out of curiosity what are you storing that you're removing it?

I built some custom underfloor storage for my current vehicle for things like recovery gear, jumper cables, tools, air compressor hoses, etc and while there's probably enough storage without removing the JBL sub, I'd like to keep these items in the cab and out of the elements. So I want to make sure that I have the space to do so, in addition to any extras that might need to be kept inside.

Where did you end up relocating the JBL amp after you removed the sub? Did you use a factory panel like @5nahalf suggested?

I have pics of it in my build thread, but it's pretty much in the stock location, bottom left when looking at the back wall. I even used the factory mounting bracket, just modified it slightly.
