I have a 2016 taco limited double cab with the jbl system. I did buy the speaker bundle plug and play from kicker but i didn’t really like it. Eveyrone knows the JBL sub and amp is terrible and would just rather have something more custom. I am wanting to add a sub box I’ve been looking at scar evl 8 or 10” 2 ohm on a sub box that can just be on top of my backseat+ amp + epicenter with the controls. It’s just an idea I had in mind that’s how my brother has his ford ranger set up and I really like it. I just have questions about the jbl head unit , Can I keep the jbl head unit and find an adapter maybe? To wire things or do I need to replace it with another head unit or are there any recommended head units with Apple CarPlay. And also deadening the sound is there any recommended products to use? I don’t know too much about audio systems so I’d like to hear other suggestions or what setups everyone else has. Thank you

I have a 2020 Pro with the JBL premium system. I just swapped the factory sub out with an 8" pioneer shallow mount into the factory box and hooked it to a 400w Clarion XC2110 (it's very small and fits in the gap under the back rest in the back seats). The amp has a built in signal converter so I was able to use the factory sub wires for signal.
The head unit doesn't have an amp or signal processor in it. That is all integrated into the factory amp so if you want to remove the amp you'll need to replace everything.
Either way, just swapping out the sub really brought the stereo to life.
