I've seen this topic posted in past and it tends to go off track with people saying what they have done with a non- JBL system. So I decided to try to upgrade the speakers using the stock JBL system.
So this is what I have done so far:
    Dash -
Kenwood Excelon KFC-X2C - Big difference. The speakers are listed as 4 ohm I know a lot of the stock system speakers were 2 ohm but the Kenwoods ROCK, considerably better sound than the stock dash speakers. And louder.
JBL CLUB 9630 6x9 (Front Doors) I was trying to stick with JBL as much as possible. These are listed at 3 ohm. Stock 6x9 are listed as 2 ohm Sound is definitely cleaner but I have noticed that you have to turn it up more to to get volume. So not quite as loud as stock

JBL CLUB 6520 6.5 (Back Doors) Not installed yet. These are listed at 3 ohm and the stock system for this speaker is listed at 4 ohm so maybe dropping down the resistance may make them a bit louder...Stay tuned :)

I was trying to stick with JBL but they don't make replacement small dash speakers to my knowledge you can do the Subaru swap, Memphis also makes a model but the specs on the Kenwoods seemed better so far great sound.

typically you want the ohms of the speakers to match the ohms of the amp that’s powering them.. if your amp is capable of 400 watts at 4 ohms you want 4 100-200 watt peak at 4 ohms. higher ohms on the amp than the speakers = blown speakers. higher ohms on the speaker than the amp = not enough power from the amp so you’re not getting the full potential of the speaker.

I was going to post something. I'm glad you did it first. I picked up my Silver Sky Metallic TRD Sport today. I wanted leather, could give or take the moon roof, but was really looking forward to the sound system. Unfortunately, I didn't have media when I test drove it. I tried playing through bluetooth. The sound seems to be muddled, lacking clarity, even after adjusting the equalizer.

I spent a lot for the premium package. Is there way to upgrade the sound system on a budget?

Does anyone happen to know what the ohm rating of the JBL system's amp is?
