The sound is not amazing but its not bad either. The bluetooth and steering wheel controls is what really makes worth it for me. I have had $1000+ systems in previous cars and I am satisfied with it in comparison. I also felt that I would upgrade the system until its a few years old so as to enjoy the fact that everything just works.

It's somewhere between entry level and premium. If you have any desire to do any audio work yourself, absolutely stay as far away from it as you can.

P.O.S. (IMO)... pure waste of money,JBL should be ashamed to put their name on it. i wanted the sport and all of it's glory, and i got it. knowing what i know now, i would have rather gotten a base model truck and go from there. my wife got an 09 highlander, and the stock base system sounds better than mine:confused:

I'm not sure how you guys can bag on it that way... A bit of the extremisms. I've had some high end systems in the past and one that was borderline competition quality. For the the 6 disk CD, MP3/IPod userface, Blue Tooth, steering wheel controls, factory clean look, and over all quality of sound. I'd challange someone to beat it for the money. IMO the system is very solid and will hold you over for a time while you save up a few K to beat it.

i dont' care about sound quality so much, but what really made this worth it was the bluetooth.. i love it. phone calls are my main avenue of business and i'm taking calls left and right. love it!

good way to look at it i agree with this statement. plus it was in the truck i liked so i didnt get it because of the features or cost. i wanted a truck and it was just in it. bluetooth is sweet tho.

I have an 09 dc sport with the jbl. I also have an 03 limited 4runner with jbl. At first i wanted to change everything out in the 09. After taking the wifes 4runner to the car wash yesterday, I couldn't wait to get home. The jbl in the 4runner is a JOKE compared to the 09. I think I will be happy for a couple of years with this system. I just figured out the whole mp3 thing. I just put 8 cds on one cd. WAY better than any cd changer.

The bluetooth works, but you have to enter numbers into the system. You can only load 20 numbers I think. My wife's KIA actually downloads your entire phonebook as soon as the system syncs with the phone. I also hate the lack of display. Again, the KIA has a large display and you can see all of the song info. The system in the tacoma doesn't scroll info like band name and song name and channel.

    Stock. Purchased 2/17/19. Cement!
I've got the JBL sound system too but without the bluetooth. They weren't popular in 2006. Haha. I do like it. I would for sure replace the speakers if anything and change out the subwoofer. Ever since I bought the truck, I knew there would come a day that I'd change out the stereo but I haven't done it yet. So I guess I'm glad for the upgrade. It's been 4 years already.

I'm doing an R&R on my head unit and am trying to put all of the bits together. Can anyone tell me how to determine whether I have a JBL system or not? '09 PreRunner sport, access cab, "cylon" sub in the back... I can post a pic of my radio's butt if that would help..?..?

Disregard.. I looked at the window sticker and found that it is NOT a JBL system.:( Anyone need a PAC TATO? That's the box used to turn on the factory amp when installing an aftermarket HU...:frusty:

It sounds decent, but it really lacks the bass even with the subwoofer.

The JBL system is a POS and even more of a POS to change out. Don't waste your money if you want a good system. It is nice to have the bluetooth and the backup camera which comes on the sport though. That is why I bought it but I just replaced the JBL system and it sounds a heck of a lot better. The speakers are crap!

is it possible to use use the encloser and the mounts...take out the sub and factory amp put a lets say JL or Alpine shallow mount sub and just use another amp...or does the encloser not have enough air space or even bother?

the best upgrade you can do to the JBL system is pull it out and throw it away
