That would be ideal, but there aren't any around here. I just made a deal on one without JBL. My dealer has to bring it in from Michigan to NY.

sweet! I think it just depends on what you like to listen to. I'm sure it's fine for many
but I like a "thumpy" bass, driving for over 30 years and still love it. The JL Audio all around
I had installed compared to the JBL isn't even close. Hell the stock may be plenty for you
it just wasn't enough for me.

In my youth, stock never cut it, but now it's good enough.

The truck is an Inferno TRD OFF Road, DCSB, premium/tech, with factory tonneau. :bananadance:

That comes down to individual taste. If the JBL was a $2000 upgrade, I may have passed. Getting nicer components, a 475 watt amp, better DSP, and a built in sub was worth the extra 600 bucks to me.

Now I understand if you weren't interested in getting P/T the choice would be harder, because some may want JBL but not want the moon roof, parking sensors, dual climate control and heated seats.

I actually wanted the moonroof way more than the JBL.

me too on the moon roof! I was so happy to see that and side
mirror defrosters along with the darker interior.

So nice man!! That inferno is a sick color. If it didn't look like a cop
magnet I'd of gone that way, here in Va. they are everywhere, hidden in
    every spot they can find.

Same here. The moonroof was as MUST HAVE. Any truck I bought had to have the P/T package. Forgot to mention the LED DRLs. That was a must have for me too!

That's why the $600 JBL option was a no brainer for me. I already wanted a P/T packaged truck.

But like I mentioned, every upgrade is at an individual's discretion. You mentioned you're not into audio or listening to music in the truck -- that $600 bucks may just be better in your wallet.

It had nothing to do with money (I would have gotten it in a second if it were available). My dealer couldn't find a truck with the factory tonneau cover and JBL, so I would have had to order one, and I don't have that kind of time.

The feedback in this thread convinced me that it wasn't a big enough upgrade to bother waiting for. I pick up my new truck Wednesday night.

    Thanks TW!!

    Congratulations on the new truck!

    However...

Is never a good position to be in when making a large purchase.

I'm really not too worried about the lack of JBL.....

If I get to the point where I'm not satisfied with the stock stereo, I'll upgrade it myself (I used to build some serious systems).

Well there is at least one member here in the forums who is an audio expert (Sound Production/Engineer) as part of his career and he actually had a pretty good critique /positive review of the 3rd Gen JBL system. Most members here provide feedback on the quality of the JBL system and it is just a subjective opinion. However I believe his opinion holds water over anyone else as it is his profession and he is an expert in the field. Perhaps you don't have the settings correctly adjusted when you "tinker" with it. While I expect that he knows exactly how to tune the stereo system to squeeze every ounce of available quality audio out of it.

can you get the jbl system without getting the prem tech package? most of that stuff is worthless. i would only want the jbl system and maybe heated seats.

His opinion, like ALL opinions, are subjective....

I've been installing stereos for over 15 years, but have been working with them for over 20 years. I've installed more stereo's that I can even count and did that for a living for quite some time. I competed in both SPL and SQ for 10 years and I'm currently building another SQ setup to compete with. My life has revolved around car audio since the day I was old enough to understand what a sub was. There is very little you can tune on the stock setup. When I tune my installs I use an oscilloscope to do my tuning for the equipment. So me having something adjusted wrong on a stock system is completely out of the question.

Most people are not audiophiles and have never heard a good sound system before in their life to make a comparison.

Except his is an expert Professional opinion and he has done it to produce/record money making music for artists who's lives depend on it. So I'd take an expert opinion over someone who's installed 20 stereos in their garage or does it as a hobby every day of the week and twice on Sundays.
