I'm a professional when it comes to car audio. There are differences between studio audio an car audio.

So you run a Car Audio store? This is your primary profession for over 20 years?

Used to do this as my primary profession for over 10 years. Got away from it to move into a different career path that always interested me and makes better cash.
What I'm saying is at least I've been in this game most of my life and I'm still active in it. Not sure why you are giving me so much shit. You took your truck in and when they gave you a bullshit excuse you believed it and now you'll never upgrade again due to that. Yeah your opinion means jack shit when it comes to car audio.

    Go enjoy your JBL system.

Not once, not twice but three times a variety of shops messed up audio installs on my vehicles. There are others here who have had the same issues with this. Tearing apart the interior on a brand new $35k-$40k truck just not my idea of smart... and if you don't learn from history and past experience you are doomed to repeat it. The JBL system is a good sounding system for me. It's a truck, not a sound studio but I can respect the opinion of someone with sound studio experience to provide the most qualified opinion on a vehicle audio system. Yeah, that's good enough for me. And for $600 (edit $705 the cost of JBL) with labor and parts plus added risk of fucking up the interior of your truck, the average Joe is going to be best suited settling with the JBL system. Because aftermarket materials, speakers, amps and labor alone is going to cost you more than $600 to even get a marginal upgrade over what the OEM JBL system provides. That's the truth. So sure, you can roll the dice as the average consumer risk getting your interior screwed up like I have many times and spend $1200 to $2000 for an upgrade over the JBL system....in time you may kick yourself for it.

I don't think there has ever been any question that you can setup your own audio and have it suit and sound to your taste. That's not the question.

The question is the JBL worth the $600 premium over the stock stuff?

...^^^... Too bad you are not in the North Georgia area ... you sound like a dedicated pro.

How do you find a good shop ... then a good professional in that shop ...

I used to do this stuff myself ... but not into tear outs and installs now.

It's hard to find good installers. But our truck is EASY to do. I mean super easy to install. I always suggest to go to your local forum on TW, ask a few people have have had a stereo shop do an install and then go look/listen to their build. See how the job was done, ask the person if they like the shop, how much they paid, etc. Odds are you'll find someone who installs on the side. I do a lot of the stereo installs for the Az people. Saves them some cash as well.

Or you can risk it and just take it to random shops like others do then use that as an excuse not to ever upgrade again.

screw profits. they make too much already. $35-$40k for a mid size truck? you should be able to get whatever you want at that price.

shoot you can't even get the base model trucks because they don't offer them with the v6 in manual tranny so the SR and SR5 models are off the table. those are the ones i would be able to afford but not offered in the correct setup.

they don't even offer the off road trd access cab with manual tranny. your only option for a v6 manual access cab is a trd sport. that's it. 1 option.

what if you also want the jbl system, heated seats, and a rear locker? oh well they don't care. they are too rich to be concerned about it.

at $35k a jbl sound system should be standard as well as a rear locker and heated seats. it shouldn't cost extra.

Corporate greed. People are willing to pay it they'll keep selling it and raising prices until they don't sell

Do some research. JBL is gonna cost you $3k or you can save some pennies and get the P&T without for a few hundred less. IMHO, JBL wasn't all that it's cracked up to be. Hence my stereo build...

Someone said it was 3k, I said really? Then another few members chimed in about the cost.

I agree that it's not worth the cost.

There was another member that had replaced his '16 JBL speakers and had the same rear speakers as you with the 2" rear mid.

@stan23 Did you take those speakers out of your '16 or was that a pic you found?

If the factory JBL system in the new Tacomas is anything like the factory JBL system in my friend's 2007 Camry Hybrid or my aunt's 2009 RAV4 Limited, I say JBL is worth it!
