A lot of local municipalities buy them, landscaping companies, tree services, construction companies, etc.. I used to be in fleet sales Davey Tree co for example bought about 400 Tacomas from me circa 2010-2013. McMillin construction also bought a few dozen.

Back in the day they all used to buy rangers but now they're avoiding them like the plague. McMillin even just bought up a shitload of Ridgelines which kind of surprised me, mostly think for their managers to drive around.

oh wow you paid more?!? You're gonna love that depreciation lol.

Model by model % of fleet/retail ratio ford keeps secret because its embarrassing, I've been in the car business 10 years its a well established fact ford has always heavily relied on fleet to boost #s. But the overall data is public:
"According to Cox Automotive, 19 percent of Ford vehicles were sold to rental car fleets last month, while government and commercial buyers bought 20 percent of Ford's vehicles. At least two of the three commercial channels are profitable, says LaNeve."
    https://www.autonews.com/sales/fords-laneve-fleet-sales-will-level-q1

49% total!!! If thats their OVERALL % of non-retail sales which includes their cars, you really think the Ranger is some outlier?? Ranger was always their bread and butter fleet vehicle lol.

"In terms of market share leaders, Ford had the largest market share in commercial and government fleets while Nissan had the largest market share in rental fleets."

I guess different markets utilize different vehicles. I know I have a few Hiluxs in Argentina but here in the states we buy Dodge almost exclusively due to reliability. We dumped ford heavy duties last year as they were heavy on repair costs and light on duty.

Previous company was the same, we dumped ford and Chevy due to maintenance costs and stuck with dodge and toyota for our fleet.

I guess for me though a midsize just seems to be an awful compromise for any sort of fleet option other than looks.

JD power also says chevy is #1 for "initial quality". WTF does that even mean? Looks great and everything functions correctly as you're rolling off the lot but give it a few months and it will be falling apart lol

I worked at an auto group that had the maintenance contract with the California Highway Patrol, CHP ditched ford for the same reason. When they were running all Crown Vics you'd get those things in for routing maintenance and that was it. 150k miles and our ford store would rarely do anything other than basic maintenance. Once they switched to the Ecoboost Exploders holy hell they were in service ALL THE TIME. Our dealership sure loved it, we went from two dedicated bays for CHP to FIVE and even then they were almost always full. Anyone in San Diego drive by Mossy Ford you'll see at least 3-4 CHP Exploders in their at all times, back in the day we'd have the crown vics in and out in 1 day almost always, never had them stacked up sitting there.

Soon as the first contract with ford was done CHP ran like hell straight to Dodge.

Which surprises me because on the consumer level Dodge appears to be absolute shit, but you're not the first guy I've heard that stacks up on them for their fleets... so dodge must be doing something right.

The Ford F150 is the most popular vehicle in Canada, yet i have recently seen commercials offering 0% financing for 5 years and another ad offering $15,000 off MSRP. So I am figuring that full size pickup sales are in the dumpster and I don't think mid sized trucks are picking up the slack. There are lots of vehicle assembly plant closures or shift cut backs going on in North America, so has a downturn in the economy already started?

I have yet to see a new Ranger in central MN where I live. But I don't see many 3rd Gen Tacoma's for that matter. It's mostly full size trucks around here.

Do you remember some of the comments about the 3G Tacoma when photos were being released in 2015? People hated the grill. Comments like it looks like a pig.

How a vehicle looks is purely subjective and personal opinions. :)

The JDP survey that i got in October of 2018 concerning the 2019 Tacoma Pro had plenty of questions about quality - especially if you indicate there is a problem, because that opened up additional questions about the problem.
Let's just say that the JD Power survey that I filled out didnt help Toyota any.
It could be that many people arent happy with the weak high revving 3.5L engine and the shifty transmission and filled out the survey accordingly.
I don't doubt that it's possible (or even probable) that JDP gets bought out for the awards, but every match up and contest that you see on youtube and eleswhere on the web puts the Tacoma dead last or in third place. So it's no surprise that the Ranger beat out the Tacoma .
In my younger days I bought a new Ranger and also a used one. I personally wouldn't want another Ranger or any Ford product though.
