JD power rips Third Gen Tacoma again

Brought my 2017 SR Tacoma and never test drove it.....first time I drove it was after the paper work was done and I was going home. What I hate to see about what JD Powers has to say is it could really hurt my resale value one day. As for daily driver I love mine, Rear end problem taken care of now. The best thing about my tacoma, when I drive it i no am driving a truck a real truck not no want to be truck like some of the other that ride like a car......ITS A TRUCK.

Two things they mentioned popped out. "The brakes seem to be on or off." I've always felt like they are more harsh than they should be. I remember when I first got it, and I was still getting used to the way they work, my gf commented on me "slamming the brakes". I've gotten used to it now, buts that's a fair assessment.

The second thing: the schnozz on this thing is a bitch to see over when off-roading. If I start doing it more frequently, I'll need to add a front facing camera.

 

I do agree with you about the schnozz on this thing, I go to park get out and am 3 foot away from the front of the parking place and sticking out into traffic, maybe one day i to will get use to it.....Been looking a the front camera idea. lol.

 

My friend's Civic was "soul-crushingly uninspiring to drive on the trail or haul a thousand pounds of 12' decking boards".

But perhaps I'm not being fair about it. Nah...my subjectivity is fact. We all know that

And this is the thing right here, people buy pickup trucks to use as cars and they have been doing it for 20 years. Most other manufacturers have [while increasing capacity and such] designed their offerings to ride like big cars. Yota, not so much but they are judged by how close they ride to a car.

If I want fun on the road, I'll drive a light sports car, I don't even think people today know what handling is because their vehicle does it all for them and they are at best, a participating spectator. Ask most drivers what over steer is, or understeer, or snap over steer, they will go ''Huh?" and look at you with a blank look in their face.

If you judge a Taco by full size [bloated] pick up truck standards on the road, it will fail. Take that bloated full size off road other then a vast expanse of nothingness, and the rules change.

 

I dont mind how much truck rides in the least.

I dont think it should rumble or howl down the highway--whether its a truck or not.

 

You know if was CEO of a auto manufacturing company an I paid a company big $$$$$$$ to make the top selling mid size pick up truck look bad. Would they do it?

 

Camary is also soul crushing to drive, look how many of those are sold every year. Why do you think that is?

Mazda has been known to make some pretty entertaining cars and small SUVs to drive, look where it stands in the market share. Mostly considered a niche manufacturer due to its small share, same as Subaru.

Regardless of what JD Powers thinks, Toyota knows what a majority of the people want and the market shows.

 

Agree. Drove an S2000 for 10 years, road, track, autocross. Buy a truck, you get a truck. This thing drives exactly as it should, which is just fine.

I really don't see the article ripping the truck at all, just that they don't understand why it's popular with a certain segment.

 

Until Toyota completely removes the Tacoma's off road nuts....reviewers, especially ones like CR and JDP, will continue to hammer it. They have for a couple of decades now.

The Ridgeline is the darling of the midsize pickup market right now for non truck educated reviewers.. But not because of what it can do....but rather what it can't do. Or better put....what it's not expected to do

 

That's the disconnect between the people reviewing a product and the people buying a product. It's often times quite real.

I'm not really defending the Taco per say. Mearly pointing out that increasingly reviewers seem to miss the point of the Taco's DNA

 

I think I understand now, the "expert" needs to rely on Suri to get where he's going, needs more cup holders for his soy Latte and headroom to accommodate the manbun.

No wonder she hates it.

I really don't give a damm what jd powers says or some other bias think they know it all I'll use my own judgement on what I buy I like my taco and thats all that matters

 

ridgeline is awesome and trendy because sitting down to pee is in fashion.
