    3 phase is more efficient than single phase. far fewer drops in a 3 phase sine wave than a single phase sine wave.

    I'm aware of the drop differences between 1 and 3 phase. I'm saying that if theres THAT big of a drop in commercial systems from two 120v lines to 208v. wouldn't the same drop happen in residential power being fed to stoves/washers/etc..

    there's no need for 3 phase power for residential. even if you had a 120/208V supply to your house, there is nothing you would actually need 3 phase for. everything except the dryer and range would use one phase and the dryer and range would use 2 phases. with 3 phase you want to balance the load across all three phases, and that would be difficult to do in a house since the electrician can not possibly know what you're going to plug in and where.
