    Yeah....The shielding gas pretty much floods the local area. Being as you are about 1/2" away when welding, your gonne be fine. :)

    Also john, Depending on how much welding your gonna be doing, you may want to consider that flux core wire...or whatever its called. I hear its not as strong of a bead, but I havent been able to break one yet.

    I use that. As long as you have a clean surface and good ground, the stuff works pretty well.

    i know nothing about welding...so dont really listen to me

    i know i used a Miller unit to weld my sliders and it had a wire that came out when i did it

    is that what we're talking about?

    I spoke at length with Richard Stubbs about the install. He said I could go either way. He said that he has used the welder that I have and it will do just fine and if I ever wanted to weld thicker than the machine was rated I could use the flux core stuff. I think that I am going to go with the shielding gas on this one and see how it goes. It's about time I used that fancy blue box inthe garage.

    I had always used sheilded (at work). Then when I bought my 110v, I made sure I could do both with it. I started using the flux core it came with. I have to admit it is a little different than the sheilded. But if the area is prepped right and you take your time, you can lay down some nice beads.
