You hit the nail on the head. That's exactly what I plan to do. I can't decide if I want to go all out and do it 100% with boards, or if I should just use plywood and put some trim board on the edges. Looks to me in the plan that the front face leaves a lot of plywood edge exposed. How would you go about covering that? Just rip some 3/4" boards down to 1/8" to use as trim?

You can always use veneer over it

You can buy thin veneer in different sizes (1/2-4" etc). Clean the edges well, apply adhesive, apply veneer, clamp on with a straight edge for equal pressure. After its dry use a router/belt sander and trim off excess veneer

I just looked at lowes online. Does this stuff work well?

    http://www.lowes.com/pd_16545-99899...veneer&pl=1&currentURL=?Ntt=veneer&facetInfo=

Seems to be all they have.

I've yet to find a good lumber place here....

I like to put a 3/4 x 3/4 strip to cover the plywood edge and I use pocket screws and glue to hold it on there.

Seems to get good reviews. Adherence would be the worry....
That's what I did for the bar, but I only had to do it twice. This project looks like it would require a lot of that, unless I'm missing something....
I'm not even sure what you mean by that

Cut the edge of the plywood on a 45* angle. Guess in American it's 'miter' joint lol

Mitering plywood can be a pita depending on quality if the plys and especially the finish ply. If you do try it, try on a small cutoff to see how it goes first
