Best of luck with the job search today Mike.

It is really depressing how many 40 to 55 YO's are out of work these days. Count your blessings that you are still employed. The news medias want us to believe the unemployment crisis is passed but really it is not.

My wife and I had a serious talk about our son's future last night and we both agree that we want him to be happy with what he does for a living and that college is not for everyone. I would really like to see him become a veterinarian but I doubt he would sign up for the schooling needed to be one. I feel that owning your own business is a big part of America's future but you really do need a few college courses to be successful.

    It's the wife's T4R so it's stock
It's really rough out there honestly... If I didn't get this contract I'm on currently, I'd be still twiddling my thumbs looking for work.

My anti-piracy contract ended in March of 2013, I worked 2 weeks in April and then nothing until July (1 week)... August I worked 1 week, September was nothing... then October 1 week, 3 weeks in November and 3 weeks in December...

Pretty crappy really... that's why I'm so bored lately... nothing left to do to the house until spring when I need to mulch...

I know... PNW was a done deal, minus the hire date... even now if I call the HR guy up there, he'll tell me we're on track and I should have something "soon"

Where in reality, I know the hiring manager and they're not hiring until they meet some magical number for profitability set by the parent corp.

Another company run by the bean counters. When the CFO's took over corporate America in 1999, years of service and job knowledge for the company was thrown out the window. It is all about getting rid of FTE's nowadays.

There's so many people out of work but do you know how hard it is to find someone to apply for work? Lol

My boss has been looking for people for awhile now but no one responds or wants the job

Hi Ken, ya'll get more snow?

It's on it's way Rob:mad: only 1 to 3" and then by the afternoon it's supposed to warm up to 43* and we will start the meltdown:rolleyes: they say we should hit 60* by Friday- flood time:eek:

I really feel for the younger generation and the job market. The company that I just retired from can't find young, good, reliable mechanics that are willing to advance themselves. The days of "The grease monkey " are gone and the world of technology in the material handling equipment is here:D. There is still lots of grease and dirt but there is also more advanced systems then they can imagine. I went through two laptops just for diagnostics. Hope you get the job soon Mike...having a family makes it even more imperative in getting work.

thanks Ken... we're doing OK with my current contract (even though I kid about relaxing and not doing anything, I actually do what needs to get done :) ) and my wife is working for a school district here making decent money...

I want stable and steady employment, hence my search for something better... I really like working for myself, but it gets hard during the slow times.

Agreed on the unemployment crisis, we are far from being clear of the crisis IMO.

On the other, my requirement for both boys was that they be "productive members of society." You can try to push them in a certain direction, but in the end they're gonna find the course they like; if you raised them right (which I'm sure ya'll have) they'll find their way and be fine. I pushed our oldest in my direction and wasted a year and a half and a fair sum of money. He found his own path in the long run and is working at what he likes now, supporting his family and himself. The youngest I never pushed, but offered to pay for college; we talked about it, but his heart never was in it. In the long run, six years later now, (I'd never say this to either of them) the youngest is actually on slightly more solid footing than the oldest. Sorry for the ramble, but that's my experience FWIW.
