Same. Gotta clean house tonight, landlords are replacing windows tomorrow so I need to tidy up  There's this weird gunk that forms between the two panes of glass...like hard water stains on steroids :notsure:

That means the argon gas between the panes has leaked out. Moisture has gotten in and it leaves a scum

white. i'll send you a pic in the morning, too dark now. the windows were all like this when i moved in and they've replaced them once about 3 years ago. the new windows are just as bad now as the original ones (from ~2000) were before they were taken out.

Ok so that rules you out as the cause. I've seen many a igu cook do to black shades too close in full sunlight. Now I just think they are cheap. When you take the pic I need to see the spacer that keeps the glass apart from each other.

    OK
They're Milgard windows which I always thought were decent quality - I know a MG dealer and showed them pics of whats happened and they can't believe it either.
And I know its not me. The windows were like this when I moved in and its in all 4 apartments. I'm sure my landlords want to blame my old air conditioner (that's why I got rid of the in window type AC unit) but there's no way that that was the cause.

Who made the glass? There should be a logo sandblasted in it that I can trace it back with. Get a good pic of it. For a long time most window manufacturers didn't make their own glass.

Are all the windows failing or just the ones on one side of the building?

    :notsure: I'll look tomorrow.
Its all over the building. All of my windows were replaced 3 years ago and now both bedrooms (west) need to be replaced and the center/fixed portion of my living room (east) are bad again. The kitchen (south) is good as are the sliders in my living room. Not sure about the other apartments.

To make sure the problem is thoroughly evaluated, I think Boyd will need closeup pics of all the windows in the building, including the other apartments. You should get out there at the break of dawn with your camera and take close up pics of your neighbor's windows.
