Evidently the state just got a grant for retraining displaced workers. First thing I need to do is get certified as a displaced worker. There's a few hoops to jump through. Then I will be eligible for retraining in one of three fields. High tech Manufacturing, health care or "green technology". There are 2 community colleges nearby. Hopefully, I'll be a student for the first time in 37 years soon.

 

Just my .02 I'd stay away from the manufacturing - high tech or not Green technology could be interesting though

 

Evidently there are a few new companies around here that qualify. One is working on batteries for electric cars and another is working on wind power turbines. I have a one on one meeting set up with an employment counselor to do a skills assessment and talk more in depth about re training. Should be a blast!

Chad, what do you know about shackles? The ones that you mount your leaf springs to? What is the purpose, besides lowering the springs?

The shackles allow the leaf springs to lengthen when they flex.

 

True, however, one can lift good springs with longer shackles. It is arguable as to whether it is a good idea or not. Slightly longer than stock is likely OK.

 

I was responding in general. Didn't know specifics of the situation. I will check it out

 

Are you talking about the post from Gr8whitetaco? Looks flat or slightly negative to me. I definately would have gotten new springs.

do you need to add anything else to the back end when you install shackles?

 

All leaf spring systems have them, looks like he got some longer ones to compensate for his sagging springs.
