She used to weigh 400lbs. She got real sick and is now down to about 250. Because she has been bed ridden for so long, her legs have wasted away to nothing and she can't walk. She is 62 and Medicare denied her. She just got qualified for disability, so I told her to reapply for Medicare so they can pay for a hoyer lift so the wheel chair van dude can get her in the wheel chair without us. And she does NOT pay for our services. If we don't transport a patient and we are on scene less than 30 minutes, we don't charge.

No, we aren't private. We are run by the county government. That fact that we now have to go to her a minimum of 2 times every week now is going to add up. The problem is, if someone calls 911, we have a duty to act, and have to show up. No matter what it is. I'm hoping she will get her Medicare crap taken care of so we don't have to go to her anymore.

OMG..... You have nooooooo idea how badly ambulances are abused down here. The city department I quit a couple of years ago was horrible. I would run average of 12-15 calls a shift. 80% of them were BS. Some people even call to be transported because they were actually wanting to go somewhere close to the hospital. One of my frequent flyers there called EVERY shift. 2 - 3 times a shift. He has been arrested and put in jail, and he doesn't stop. He's part of what I call the Listerine Mafia - homeless drunks that can't afford real booze.
