the exterior plugs should also be their own circuit and GFI protected. if I'm understanding what you've said correctly it sounds like all the receptacles in the garage are on one circuit. I'd suggest adding a 20A circuit just for the compressor.

Theres an outlet on the interior wall, with the furnace,water heater that the vac is plugged into as well a the water softner. Use a surge protector and run radio off same outlet no probs. Guessing the rest of the garage outlets are on the same circuit, 3 2 outlet and 1 4 outlet

My downstairs bathroom is directly behind the circuit panel. Its GFI. It runs up to the upstairs bathroom, out to the outside lights, into my garage. Want to know how I figured that one out? I plugged too much into the garage and couldn't find the tripped breaker. Called 2 people I knew who worked on older houses and they told me. Never knew it could be wired THAT bad?!?! If it wasn't expensive I would have someone rewire my house...

you could split that circuit in to two circuits, but that would be more work than adding a new circuit. if you have a panel/fusebox in the garage it would be fairly easy to do.

 

I wish I was just under powered. I want to add outlets to my garage, but its kind of hard to do that the way it currently is.

easiest way to do it would be run bx on the surface of the wall. you will need #12 two conductor bx, bx connectors, anti shorts, #3 straps, a 20A fuse (check the make of the fuse box), a bc1110 box, steel duplex receptacle cover, 20A 125V duplex receptacle.

 

Would rather not do it... Might burn the house down
