So I get a frantic call from my sister who owns a 2013 Jeep Wrangler. She was driving in snow conditions so she turned on 4x4. She heard weird klacking noises coming from below the engine compartment. She gets out and takes pictures to send to me. Looks like front drive shaft snapped. She takes it to the dealer and they say it is not under warranty because she has 36.1K miles on it, and warranty ends at 36k miles. Unbelievable!!! I'm so pissed I had to post this. I have 150k miles on my 2007 TRD off-road taco and NOT 1 hiccup ever. Dealer is quoting her $1200 to fix it. This is unbelievable!

I was awaiting to see what the 2016 Taco redesign would offer and compare it to other off-road options like Jeep. No way after this!!

I had a wrangler sport, gave it to my daughter when I bought my taco. The taco kicks ass, best vehicle I ever had. The jeep was fun, and would get through anything, especially the warrenty. I had many issues, even the death wobble, Google that for a good laugh. They told me it had a bad rod and was out of alignment, no shit it was wobbleing violently at 65 mph.

I would not buy a jeep.
I would also think she would have some powertrain warranty.
Could she have put it in 4L while moving?

I didn't ask but she was in snow conditions, probably going slow. Our Tacos won't engage 4x4 until it's safe (light flashes until you slow down). Does Jeep not have the same safety feature?

I looked up the power train warranty and it does say 100k miles for engine, transmission, and on 4x4, these following items:

transfer case and all internal parts; transfer case control
module and shift mode motor assembly; axle housing
    and all internal parts; axle shafts; axle shaft bearings;
drive shafts assemblies (front and rear); drive shaft
center bearings; universal joints and yokes; disconnect
housing assembly; seals and gaskets for the listed components
    only.

No mention of drive shaft in there. Even their warranty sucks. I guess this must be a common problem and they don't want to cover it.

Drive shaft assemblies (front and rear). Looks like it is covered for 5 years, 100k. Common issue is the front boot gets a tear and it runs dry leading to these kinds of failures. Is the Jeep lifted? If it is stock then no way it isnt covered.

Call corporate. I smell a shady dealer.

Had a Jeep CJ5 Renegade. That was 20+ years ago. I have friends with newer jeeps they haven't had any problems. I know a lot of guys here hate Jeeps but I would buy one.

If it wasn't for our inexperienced Toyota sales person giving me a great deal on my Taco, I would've bought a Wrangler. I'm glad I didn't. I hope your sister gets it repaired without additional costs out of her pocket.

We have a 08 wrangler Sahara, 77k miles, no major issues, just replaced muffler and heat shield. Great in snow. Not a reliable as the taco, but acceptable.

At the time i was in the vehicle with a big Heep fan, his response was "yeah they'll do that".....

    No significant mods....yet
I am no fan of the newer jeeps by any means but my wrangler TJ never had any major issues before getting rid of it at 180,000 miles. Chrysler has shat on the jeep line and IMHO they just don't seem like jeeps anymore; now they're just average, generic garbage.

    Shame...

I've been tow strapped by JEEPS, I tend not to get on the high horse so quickly. It's unfortunate about her luck, I hope she can get it fixed without much headache.

I've owned two XJ's and two TJ's. They have an excellent community (ahem, cult) following. Like most anything they have their own set of pros/cons and quirks. The phrase "It's a Jeep thing" applies when talking about any of said pros/cons and quirks.

I got the bug one day to trade my car in for a new 4 door Wrangler. Thats when i found out that they are only rated to tow as Jeep puts it "an astonishing 3,500 lbs". A little lurking on TW and I quickly realized I wanted a Tacoma :)

Yank the drive shaft off if the dealer won't play ball. Your sis can limp around in rear wheel drive till you either put in an aftermarket drive shaft or you get it warrantied.

I really hope you get it covered by the dealer. Unless it has a 2.5"+ lift Jeep needs to cover it. Opening a case with corporate will help if in fact you have a crap dealer trying to take advantage of your sister.

    Best of luck!

I was looking for front shaft without assembly. I'll advise her of this. I live in a different state or I would be there delivering a :crapstorm:
