    Those dates sound good. My schedule is pretty flexible as well. As far as learning in a short amount of time, that doesn't have to be the case. I'm more than willing to take the necessary time/precautions to proficiently learn how to climb. I'm just not about to start learning without some guidance.

    Zion would be great at that time of year. We can hike the narrows from the bottom, and apply for a permit for Subway if you want, and there are some "novice" canyons we can do as well. You will need to get yourself a climbing harness, belay device, climbing helmet, and a couple of quality carabiners.

    Just as an example here is what I use.

    Harness - Belay device - Carabiner - Helmet - Some boots that grip good are needed as well, like these - You wouldn't necessarily need to purchase the boots though, they can be rented at several shops in town just outside the south entrance to Zion

    For subway it shouldn't be that hard. In August we will have to come up with a specific date for the trip so I can apply for a permit. Even if we don't get a permit there are always leftover permits that can be had, plus like I said...there are several "novice" canyons we can do that will only have 20ft or less rappels.
