Just a bunch of old crap
Ok so the Firestone guy said on 2 different occasions that one of my inners had some slight play. I have had the truck jacked up quite a few times at full droop and do the wiggle test and I don't feel any play. I can turn all around side to side just fine with no noise or pop, but at certain angles and just since we did axles have I felt this new occasional pop when backing out at full turn.

As long as some of you are wheeling with bad tie rod ends, I won't feel alone :/ Is anyone bringing spares?

I can bring my old ones along but I wouldn't trust them much lol.

Keep in mind, I have like 3" of play side to side by hand. The truck will be putting way more force side to side than a human can.

Damn I don't have any play like that. Yikes!

I checked Rock Auto and the Moog inners are only like $20 each. That's cheap. I expect this will be my next and last front end project for a while. I don't have time to order them in before Rug Road so I'll just roll the dice. Bring those old tie rod ends with just in case... I'd rather have a bad one than a totally broken one.

yeah i bet its your tie rods adam.

    sounds good to me.
both of my tires have some play side to side. passenger side is the tie rod, and the driver side is UCA bushings for me.

i have 1 "bad" tie rod i guess. but it doesnt make noises. but it has a few inches of play in it.

mise well bring your old ones, never know when they will come in handy to get a rig off the trail. i try and keep my old ball joints just incase.

It will eliminate the pucker factor by a couple percent if I know there is a spare in the group.

With the way it pops, it makes me wonder if those new CV's are just settling in or something. It only happens very rarely and it's hard to re-create. Usually only happens in reverse, too, which will be a minimum on this trail hopefully. When I wheeled at New River, I only had it pop once on a steep downhill at an odd angle but after that it was fine on other odd angles. Tough to pinpoint.

I sure hope not. They're brand new and went on with no issues. Everything torqued to spec and there were no problems with the install.

loose? bailing wire, zip ties, plastic coat hanger and a lighter, something can fix it lol.
i really doubt it. if it was your cvs popping i think it would already be done for, and you would definitley know if it was a cv.
    i think youll be fine.

    yes i agree.

and if it is stopping you, i can bring a new boot to tucson thursday night and we can throw that bitch on :D

the outers are almost always a bitch, for me at least.

you can pull the inner just by taking off the c clip and put the boot for the outer on that way? thats what i do so i dont need to take off the outer joint.
