Thanks for the clarification, cjc axles with the bigger boots are on the list of mods as well.

To test coil binding with my current preload what would be the best way to do that?

Measure the amount of shock shaft showing and compare it to the distance between all of the coils in a straight, vertical line

At ride height: shaft measures roughly 3 inches

Distance between each coil ring combined: roughly 4.18 inches

I am in love with AZ!!!! I moved up here on 8/1 and will never look back. Traffic? No. Crappy air? No. No firearm BS. Just landed a job working from home and that starts in 2 days but man have I been playing since I got here.

From today....93 miles in the dirt. Saw 3 lakes, got hailed on twice, rained on a lot, went solo and spent the day in this!!!! I saw maybe 7-8 other people all day

Most folks are ready to jump to a higher rate spring when what may work much better is to increase the compression damping of the shock.

I have no specific experience with the first gen Tacoma weight and suspension, but this is what I learned with my own Tacoma.....

My Tacoma is a 2012 (Second gen) with lots of weight added (plate bumpers F & R), full steel skids, sliders, Rack RTT, winch, double batteries...). I have ICON extended travel coilovers up front with Camburg Upper Control Armas to allow the extended travel. As new with my weight they bottomed out way too easily off-road in my opinion.

I discussed this with several folks including ICON, and got varied answers on swapping from stock 650# springs to 700# springs. I literally asked 10 folks: 5 said swap the springs, REAL suspension folks asked me detailed questions about the way the suspension worked at slow and fast speeds and advised me to re-valve the shocks, NOT use higher rate springs.

I had Jason at Arizona Performance Engineering rebuild the shocks and WOW! it is great and not stiff.

My advice is to get the pre-load sorted out first. Too much pre-load and you will top out, too little and you sacrifice lift. Then see where you are. ICON coilovers (like Fox and Kings) are re-buildable, so you can make them suit your vehicle and driving style.

Yea I can totally relate. Took a quick trail run on some random dirt roads around flagstaff for about 30 min and ended up having a blast. Don't really like mud, although yesterday was good to get out an explore. First took a graded WASHBOARD road by lake Mary and took some side trails off of that.... So much to explore out here! image.jpgimage.jpg
