I believe he's referring to the abandoned ranch house with the rope swing about 1/2ish way to turkey creek along the 4×4 route.

 

I know some might have extra restrictions/permits, but the only constant with Wilderness Areas is no Mechanized Travel (trucks/bikes/boats/etc) But dispersed camping and hiking are frequently ok.

 

Sounds about right. It was about halfway when we all got seperated

 

Ahh yes, that would be Parsons Grove. Camping there would be fine.

 

Per the BLM website:
All other land in east Aravaipa Canyon outside of the Wilderness Boundary (where the road turns left into Turkey Creek past the Canyon trailhead) is privately owned by The Nature Conservancy.

True amatuer radios require each operator hold a valid FCC issued license. Most of what is called "race radios" are operated on business bands and are questionably legal, but since use is mobile and not for much duration folks get away with this. The cheap Chinese ham handhelds do require licensing and as such you will not get replies from actual ham operators as they know you are bootleg operators.

I have a license and a 2M/70cM radio but use it only from home. I have a CB just for our trail runs. CB is certainly limited range, but communication between first and last rig is essential in my opinion. 4X4 Hams is a group of legitimate ham radio operators that do some great off road trips. Some of them have HF radios and can talk all over the country while mobile, or just a mile on low power VHF as needed. I like hanging with the TW group myself.
