It's way worse than that. Something binds and clunks HARD like I'm about to drop the diff. Only on slow back-ups with the wheel turned, and not always then. Never happens when going forward. I'm thinking one of my brake pads is catching on one of the slots in my slotted/drilled rotors. The pads looked chunky on the back edge. I'm going to go back to smooth rotors next and see if that fixes it. I could have a sticking caliper which is helping that, too.

Have you considered that you LSD may not be disengaging properly?

 

No doubt, way too long.

I hadn't thought about the LSD. How would I even go about checking that?

 

Ive heard about issues with those ADDs on Tacos.

I wonder if it's just not fully disengaging. Maybe I'll run it through a few engagements and disengagements to see if it pulls back into place.

 

I don't have any clue bro. But I've had loud clanks out of my rear end when starting to reverse but only in 4 wheel drive. I attributed it to the lsd gears banging into each other as they locked together. And I was thinking that if yours isn't disengaging, properly or fully, then possibly you're experiencing something similar. If it does have to do with the LSD then only guys with sport models would have dealt with it so it would be a lesser know problem then alot of what's discussed on Tw.

 

Mine's definitely a front end issue. Rear is in perfect working condition.

 

Oh, I thought you said it was coming from the rear. My bad. It could have to do with the 4×4 actuator. Is yours still the original? I had to swap mine out last year. Some of the teeth on the plastic gear that move the fork were broken off.

 

Mine is still the original. I can still engage and disengage just fine though. I've never had that be a problem before. But I'm taking all ideas to figure this thing out though, before something finally binds and detonates something important.

 

Idk bro. There's probably people who could diagnose alot more accurately than me. I'm bummed you're not coming though. Won't even chance the 2×4 route?

 

All pre 09 Tacomas had the mechanical LSD. Thats all I have to offer you shiny sport guys.

 

Forecast for Klondike, which is the closest town, says 70's during the day and 40's at night all weekend. And rain on Monday. It will probably be cooler in the canyon - possibly 30's at night.

I have a mechanical LSD, maybe only in pre 09SR5 then? in 09 they stopped using the mechanical LSD and switched

 

Mine has mechanical LSD. Gotta love the '06 Sport

 

Thats what I am saying anything before 2009 is mechanical, everything afterward is caca-dodo

 

Thats one of the reasons I have gotten away with not having a locker for so long.
