So i have a 20 offroad, and I'm just now hitting 45k miles. And I have started experiencing some weird shifting issues. So from a stop on a hill today. My truck perked really hard while I began to accelerate. I felt it throughout the entire truck. It was more like a jolt or hard jerk. A few minutes down the road, I passed a really slow driver who kept accelerating and de accelerating 20 mph slower than the speed limit. And when I passed them. I noticed the truck perked hard when I began to accelerate. Also it held 4 gear for longer than what you would expect it to even after passing them for maybe 15 seconds at 70 mph. I know this because the scan gauge i have displayed 4th gear and the revs remained high for that 10 to 15 seconds after passing before upsetting to 6th gear. Now is the normal for how it's tuned? Or is it possibly an issue like the torque converter?

I don't think that's normal, never had issue on mine. That happens when you are in 2WD?

I would check or change the transmission fluid.

Also, test to see if your symptoms occurs with the ECT button on and off.

It wasn't but maybe 6k miles ago I did a drain and fill. I did it according to how the car care nut demonstrated it. I have no codes at all. I'm wondering if it's my torque converter. Because in this generation of tacomas. There were torque converter issues with these trucks. The problem is, if there is no codes. The dealerships won't even bother looking at it while it's under warranty. Now it has been around 25 to 40 degrees with snow for the past few days. And this is my first winter riding with a 75 90 w gear oil. From my understanding heavier gear could cause harsher shifts. But I don't know for sure.

And the jerking started after that? When you used 4H and then swapped back to 2WD

No, I used the 4wd the past 2 days. But I haven't needed it today. So I drove around 50 miles in just 2wd

Did you check the fluid level between 95-113 degrees? Just want to make sure you are at the proper fluid level.

This part is normal. If bothers you, slide shifter to S mode and upshift to 5th, then slide back to D

Yes l did, I have a scan gauge 3 that can read the transmission fluid temp. Plus on the 20 year model, you don't need a wire. You can engage the truck in diagnostic mode. But just working the shift lever. And when the trans temp is ready to be checked it will have the drive light come on solid while in park. And blink when it's too hot. Which occurs at 95 to 113 degrees on my truck.

We had alot of snow on the back roads here. So i used the 4wd, basically when I needed it.

Yea, but what I meant was this. The jerking, did it start after using 4H during snow? or it was there before.

Like you did not use 4H sometime, lets say 1 year. Then you used 4H and after that jerking starts in 2WD

What fluid did you add when you did the drain and fill?

I periodically activate my 4wd once a month or so in a straight line for a few miles. So technically I used it briefly several months out of the year. And no it hasn't jerked like this prior to this week.

Well I'm followed the process from the car care nut. And I let it drain to a trickle between 95 and 113 degrees. So mine didn't appear to me to be low. Roughly the estimation was around 2 quarts that drained out.

It added around. 5 quart more before checking the fluid level.

Did you feel like a turbo kicked in or someone rear ended you?

Well I've never been rear-ended. And I've never felt a turbo kick in. But it probably felt more like jolt. It did it when I began to accelerate from a stop
