Reinforced my transfer case skid after finding a fair size dent. Cut some drain holes in the transfer and transmission skid so I don’t get as much dirt build up as well. Finally got around to cutting an oil drain access that’s actually big enough to use as well in my IFS skid.

 

I need to do this

 

Should help with weight reduction, by that I mean less dirt that I get caked in there.

 

Alright, for those of you that follow this pathetic little thread, what do ya'll think? I don't use the swingout for anything besides my tire, hi-lift, and license plate so I plan on cutting it up a bit to shave a few pounds off. This is my proposed plan. The orange is all getting removed. I plan to add a support at a 45 to match the other side, that's in black. Probably relocate the hi-lift to the bottom of the swingout and mount it horizontally.

 

might look a little "off" but would be more purpose built. I like the idea, because you could probably easily add just a tire swing to another bumper (like mine) later on easier than a full swing out.

 

I mean it looks a bit off with just a license plate there too. That swingout was really meant for functionality because I wanted my bed space anyway. Way I see it, that tubing serves no purpose and is adding weight behind my axle.

 

What if you just cut off the 20lbs of 3/16” plate you have back there and left the round tube? does that length of tube add enough weight to be measurable back there?

maybe put some mounting points on the tube to put on a water can basket for wheeling trips that can be removed?

 

Thought about it, but I don't like the look of just the tubing. Kind of looks empty. Would rather remove the tubing and keep a small bit of plate to mount my tag. I won't ever be mounting a basket on the back of my swingout. Everything I carry fits in my bed with plenty of room to spare.

 

Abundance of space makes sense with the softopper. I run out of room fast with my tent on the truck. I think having the round tube completes the look of the swingout and would look bare with just the square tube running horizontal. But that’s just me.

If I used it, I would agree with you. But like I said, I'll still have the tag in the same location so there will still be a sort of balance there.

 

Bumper isn't quite big enough for a flip out mount without it hanging off the bottom. I had it like that before and about ripped it off more than I can count. Its functional where its at, and that's really my goal here.

I’m going for simple camp functionality. Single Jerry can and small propane tank will be removed when not camping. Probably not going to hang the 60 lb hi-loft off the back either
