i took my truck in for an oil change and tire rotation yesterday and boy, that was a mistake. As an aviation maintenance tech, I would have done it myself but I like the idea of having reported service intervals on my cars history to reflect back on.
Aside from the fact it took over an hour and a half with only one person in front of me, the tech aparently let the oil filter drain from its housing up top all the way to the splash guard under the engine and covering everything on its way down. The oil pooled up on the splash guard and aparently the headwind on the freeway blew that pool of oil EVERYWHERE covering every component with oil, from the splash guard back. I didn’t notice until after I got home, parked and came back a few hours later when there were 3 medium sized puddles under my truck. I’m just thankful it was old oil and they didn’t forget to replace my drain plug or something. Guess who gets to climb under and field day under there?
    worst 95$ service ever.

I've heard way too many horror stories from places like Jiffylube to ever trust taking my truck there. At least yours was just messy and they didn't forget to put oil in it or forget to tighten the filter down, double up on filter seals, loose drain plug, etc. If you have the know how and ability to do your own maintenance, I would go that route...you can easily log it yourself...they have phone apps and such now to make it easy in case you forget the mileage or lose the paper you wrote it on.

It’s literally the easiest maintenance procedure you can do on a car. With $45 of the $95 going toward labor, I’d expect a little more attention to detail and less carelessness. I’ll be doing my own maintenance from now on.

I agree but unfortunately those places don't train very well or hire the brightest people...although I will say I've been to some smaller chain oil shops in the past that were great, but Jiffy Lube is known for shotty work and trying to rip people off.

Not sure what I understand less, jiffy lube or their customers.

Before I started doing my own maintenance, I always had great experiences with the drive through Valvoline shops or a chain called Oilstop here in CA

I let local auto repair shops do my oil changes !!!! , one is I've got paperwork for maintenance history and the other being a disabled vet I can't get down onto the ground anymore to do my own maintenance

You can add your own service records if you register your truck on the Toyota website or app.

I read that this only shows up on your profile only and not something that can be seated in the service history DB.

I can't see why making a note and attaching a receipt for oil and filter organized somewhere is not sufficient... I would trust someone with that over looking at JL receipts.

in the handful of times I let others change mine they have usually made a mess or broke clips on the air filter, they have also moved my seats around before too.

I briefly worked at one. I take too much pride in my work and honesty.
Had one on my first day where they were "training me" that ticked me off. Full size truck comes in for oil change. They talk him into a diff fluid change and are walking me through their checklist. On checking the fuel filter, he pointed at it and said fuel filter is dirty. I told him that it is a new filter (still shiny with smudge from a gloved hand putting it on) that just had road dirt because the owner lived on a dirt road (rest of the underside was caked). He told the owner that it needed to be replaced because it was old and dirty. To which the owner said it got replaced earlier that week and he knew it didnt need to be replaced. That is when the service writer told him that I said it needed to be replaced and that is what he goes by on his recommendations. The owner said that I was a **** liar.
Yeah, I was glad I didnt stay there long.

I applied for a job at Walmart as a lubetech. They told me that I was overqualified for the position and pay rate they were authorised to offer. Went back once when I needed to do other shopping. Oil drained onto the belt and the guy put his oil covered glove on my (then) brand new color matched grille.
I ripped into 3 managers over that. Got a full refund.

Jiffylube bought my friends wife a brand new Nissan Murano. It takes CVT transmission fluid, wife knew that told the guy and it was in the computer. She gets her 2011(75k miles) back goes 4.5 miles down the road and smells smoke and the trans gives way. The manager denied everything told her to kick rocks. My friends wife just happens to be a lawyer calls corporate office the bought her a brand new (2016 Murano) vehicle a couple days later as settlement. I’d rather do to the dealership after hearing that.

I have to move the seat 99 percent of the time. I’m an average size guy (5’8). I swear every damn person is a dwarf or a hobbit because my knees are always going through the damn firewall when I get into cars. So for future notes, would all dwarfs, hobbits, elfs, etc, please not get mad when an average human has to drive your vehicle. Also, if your vehicle has a drivability issue, don’t bring it in on a 1/64 tank of gas...

Electric seats piss me off. Takes forever to move. Especially in the pouring rain. Just have to stand there with the door wide open getting soaked waiting for the seat to go back.

The one time I was picking my car up and noticed a very small tech in the back, naturally when I got in the seat was all the way up under the steering wheel.

Every shop has a small tech, his job is to go under the dash to change mode door actuators.
