Thinking of using my 2014 Tacoma to tow my '07 JK 4 door on a trailer. It's probably at the top end of what's do-able with 6.5K towing capacity.
    Anybody done it?

    What does your trailer weigh?

JK weights 'bout 4500 lbs I believe, and trailer is around 1700 lbs.

The max capacity is 6500lbs on certain tacoma models - so you're already maxing out the limit. Have you looked to see what your towing capacity actually is?

How long & how often are you towing?

I can say this - from experience of towing 6500lbs with a V8 Grand Cherokee (6500lb capacity) - it was 'doable' but certainly a white knuckle ride downhills and the V8 would hit the redline in terms of temps. The Grand Cherokee GVWR was 5350lbs. The Tacoma is 5400lbs.

You're far better off towing with a fullsize pickup. I got rid of the Grand Cherokee and bought a Dodge Ram. The Dodge towed the same load like there was nothing there. Dodge Ram GVWR is 9900lbs.

You're better off getting a fullsize truck if you plan on towing the JK on a regular basis. IMO anyway

    This one time...

I bought an F-150 to pull my TJ on a trailer. I ended up getting a Dodge 2500 SB diesel.

If you're going to do it more than once a year or father than 500 miles I'd look to getting a real tow rig.

Size and brakes are the most limiting factor with the Tacoma and towing.

Stock as Stock can be with duratracs and a roof rack
    ^^^ that and weight

There are a few people that do it though
I think supratt or someone with a 00 sas taco toes their taco and trailer with their modded taco with tires and some armor
They say that it gets old sometimes but totally doable
