What are your guy's opinion on these two amps? I'm going for an entry level system for now. I'm running a Sony DSX-S310BTX. Thinking of running Hertz components and coax and a JL 10w3v3.

Arc Audio XXD 1500 mono sub amp -

    Power output RMS @ 4 ohms 1 x 200 watts
    Power output RMS @ 2 ohms 1 x 340 watts
    Power output RMS @ 1 ohm 1 x 500 watts
    Size 9 1/4" (L) x 7 1/8" (W) x 1 7/8" (H)

Arc Audio XXD 4080 4 channel amp -

    Power output RMS @ 4 ohms 4 x 80 watts
    Power output RMS @ 2 ohms 4 x 120 watts
    Power output RMS @ 4 ohm 2 x 240 watts
    Size 9 1/4" (L) x 7 1/8" (W) x 1 7/8" (H)

The XXD is an decent amp, made by ubuy, who makes amps for a ton of people.

I seem to recall some issues with the first generation XXD, but I dont recall what they were. Some time over on DIYMA searching may reveal a bit more, as well as the other companies that carry the same amp, with a different name.

They should work fine for a small amp install, and they offer a good warranty if there are any issues.

    thanks for the reply.

i just read on diyma that there was a noise issue with these amps, but if you call arc, they will take care of it.

Given the Arc amp's outputs, have you considered just using a single 5 channel amp? Kenwoord XR-5s or an Alpine PDX5 (saw somewhere this was discontinued, but still available, for now) are good choices, JL also has some good, pricey, choices.

I have been searching for a 5 channel as well. Really looking into the JL XD700/5 and the Hertz HDP5. I have never been a fan of Kenwood or Alpine. Granted I haven't been in the car audio game in about 15 years. I am sure a lot has changed.

I have had no problems with the XD. I found some of the best prices for the JL stuff through Al-eds.com. They do a price match with most unauthorized carriers, and have the amp for $420 right now - hover over the blue icon on the page for the amp talking about price guarantee, and you will be prompted to enter your email address.

Also fully authorized, full warranty, etc.

I'll second the XD line. I'm running the 6-channel and have no problems. It was my first JL Audio amp, but it fit exactly what I was trying to do, so I bought it. no regrets.

    pdx5 was replaced by the PDX V9. rated at 100 X 4 + 500 X 1

    the pdx5 is rated 75 X 4 + 300 X 1

i've had the pdx5 for a couple of years now. solid amp imo.

Well I ended up getting a good deal on a new PDX-5. Will this amp be enough to push one 10w3v3? Also, should I buy the 2 ohm version of that sub because the amp is rated 2 ohm @ 300?

    http://support.alpine-usa.com/products/documents/PDX-5 OM.PDF

the amp can run both 4 and 2 for the sub with outout issue.

i have the pdx 5 with that sub hooked up (i think i have a 4 ohm version)

works fine unless i max out everything....then it will "pop" a little

i wouldn't say it is under powered. i haven't put a meter on it tho. i've got the gain at like 75%, and it's only an issue when something comes on with certain sounds frequences and i turn the subwoofer to max and up the base on my head unit.

99% of the time it's perfect, it's just when i get a little crazy with it.
