So ive finally had enough of shitty sound quality and rattling and buzzing and random pops and white noise. Went to crutchfield this AM and was able to catch some things on sale. Im not an Audiophile but do enjoy music so what i chose may not be your cup of tea but for the price and the fact it has to be better than what ive got now ... they should work just fine.

I ended up running the Gambit on the Kicker CS series. There affordible and decent quality. Having run RF's and Memphis Audio in the past in various vehicles, everything in this price range is pretty much the same.

Having a non nav head unit and being non ML i went with 4ohm offerings. Mids and lows for each front door and and components for the back doors. I will not be tackling the rear sub. Ill leave that for another day.

    Screenshot_20230728-065926_Outlook.jpg

Will update in a few days after they arive and i have a chance to install.

So the man in brown delivered the goods from crutchfield so i got busy.

Once again the part #s are
    Front Mids - 47KSC2704
    Front Lows - 43DSC6704
    Rear Door Components - 46CSC654

    20230729_130511.jpg

Removal of the front door panel is pretty simple. Below are some pics highlighting the screws that need to be removed before you can start popping the door panel awat from the door. Also remember the plugs and door lock/door handle cables.

    20230729_131147.jpg

The front mids have to be wired since there are no adapters, black to grey/black and yellow to grey. Its straight forward just know that its somewhat involved. They are also attatched to the door panel and not to the door frame.

    20230729_132929.jpg

The front lows included the wiring adapters and the mounts. Nothing special to it.

Moving to the rear doors, below are pics pointing out the hiden fasteners you will need to remove.

    20230729_135918.jpg

    20230729_135957.jpg

Once again the rears included a harness and adapter. Nothing to it.

    20230729_141053.jpg

The factory speakers were trash after 17 years and after playing with the HU settings the base still leaves something to be desired but its def an improvement over these things.

    20230729_151321.jpg

Over all it was a 3 beer job and not difficult at all, And for the $200 investment i have in it, im pleased.

Another trip in the books. 390miles travled. Avg 14.4 MPG, loaded down and cruise set at 70. Saw the highest water temps yet at around 206 with a ambient temp of 94 degrees at 2100 rpm and no movement of the needle during this time. Also been paying attention to the IAT and with the snorkel are matching ambient air temps.

Fishing was decent, caught about a dozen in a 5-6 hour time frame. Nothing spectacular.

I try my best to do this after every trip. No reason not to really, just cant be lazy and let it go. Gets the majority of the salt and sand off the undercarriage, we all know how resilient Toyota frames are. :annoyed:

I have actually sold my 2019 DCOR to my son. He has walked into a Dobinson’s lifted skinny tire Taco.
I have moved onto a 2023 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon. He has the low mileage, 37000 truck replacing his 2014 4cliner 4 speed 2nd pre runner, Will follow along on this forum for all of the great info.

Got my pops taken care of this afternoon. Bilstein 5100's w/ OME 885's and a 1" block in the back from eibach along with new U - bolts. His 2nd gen is a 2011 and from what i could tell had never been taken apart, we made good use of the cut off wheel.

All in all he was happy. Wheels and tires are 17" factory offset Racelines and 265/70 BFG KO2's.

With a fishing trip at the OBX and 1500 mile week coming up i decided to go ahead and change my oil, drain and fill on the trans, grease the driveline and another round of fluid film.

    Trip Report. October, 2023
881 miles driven total. 58 miles of beach driving.
Avg MPG was a lack luster 12.8.

We had my dad and stepmom tagging along in his clean low mileage 2nd gen. We arrived in carova on Saturday Oct 14th.

    IMG_1469.jpg

Hwy 12 dead ends north bound onto the beach and continues north for another 11miles until you hit the NC/VA state line that is gated.

Red Drum, Black Drum, Pompano, Speckled Trout, Kingfish, Bluefish and Sharp Nose Atlantic Sharks. The keeper Red, Black Drum and SNA didnt go to waste and was thouroughly enjoyed. ll dump some fish pics here and let them tell the story.

Aside from the spectacular scenery and great fishing Corova is home to the some 100 wild horses that were brought by the Spanish in 1600's. Its a special sight to be fishing on the beach and see wild horses at the waters edge.

    IMG_1652.jpg

All in all it was a great trip aside from a small issue i encountered on the way home.

The GX performed flawlesly for the most part, we were about 10miles from home on the return trip and she started to stutter, i new at an instant what it was. I pulled the code on the ScanGuage and sure enough it was a P0306. A misfire on Cyl 6, i limped it home and grabbed the spare coil i carry and we were back good as new. The coil that poppes was original and made it 263XXX miles.
