    Trip Report. Nov. 4th 2023.

Did a quick overnight trip to U.R.E and ended up at one of my favorite campsites. We rolled in around noon on friday, i figured finding a spot would not be an issue but holy hell was i wrong. Apparently every f'n Land Rover owner in the SE decided to show up and make the Mtn a parking lot. We were gonna run a few trails saturday afternoon on our way out but quickly aborted due to the traffic. The beer was cold, the food was good, the fire was hot and like always the GX got me there and back home.

    Pic Dump.

Planning to hit the same spot next weekend when my daughter can come along. Shes never been to this particular spot due to the site specifics (off camber & rocky) but im hoping that with her being a little older now i shouldnt have to watch her like a hawk the entire time. Ill update the build thread either way.

Spent another weekend in the woods. URE was a cluster thanks to a Veterans Weekend ride but we fortunate enough to grab a spot.

We had some rain over night and into the morning. The OVS 270 awning came in clutch providing more than enough cover for the 3 of us to find refuge from the rain.

We awoke and got started on breakfast, a Coleman Camp Oven was delivered the day before we left along with some other goodies from GSI.

    imagejpeg_3(1).jpg

We had planned to do some cinnamon roles as a treat for my daughter. What kid wouldnt love that on a camping trip. I was very surprised it how well the oven did. Was it worth the price? Probably not but it is what it is.

Once again the GX proved why its such a great platform. It rolled 266k on this trip and still gets daily'd. I gain a little more confidence in it every day and wouldnt hesitate to drive cross country.

So enjoy these posts. Since moving to Charlotte 17 years ago camping has not been a thing that I have done. Feel my kids missed out on this since the were 1.5 years and 6 months when we moved here. Life changed so much and now they are older and not adventuresome. Thanks for sharing your family adventures!

Went out again this weekend to URE for a quick overnight. After purchasing a new bag and a new tent this was a shakedown run on how things would perform and see if we would like them.

With my 7 year old joining us more and more the old Coleman 4 person dome tent was getting cramped so we looked and watched every youtube vid we could find on the subject and ended up grabbing a North Face Wawona 6. More on that later.

As we are spending more and more time in the woods my walmart special sleeping bad just wasnt cutting it anymore it was to damn short and cramped, not to mention the 30° rating was a long shot and with me actually enjoying cold weather camping a new bag was on the "to buy" list. I was perusing the REI website and saw The North Face "One Bag" was heavily discounted and i liked what i read. One bag depending on set up thats rated for 40°, 20° and 5°. Offered in a "Long" size and comprized of a 700 fill down layer and a layer of there "heat seeker" synthetic. It got great reviews so i pulled the trigger.

On to the trip ... URE is a quick 1 hour drive for me so we go there alot and fall colors were in full force.

Poser shot on our way to camp.

    20231117_103545.jpg

We got to camp and got everything set up. It was our first time setting up the Wawona 6 and although the thing is huge its pretty straight foward and we had it set up in 18min. Its very well made and features DAC aluminum poles. It has a very large vestibule with doors on each side. It is advertised as a 6 person tent but id venture to say it will sleep 5 comfortably. Storage pockets everywhere on the inside, big windows, great ventilation. I wouldnt call it a 4-season tent but with a good sleep system cold weather shouldnt be an issue. I took a few pics incase anyone was more interested in this model.

The bags from North Face performed as advertised. The low was around 45° and i set the bag up in its 40° configuration. I wore my normal base layer and wool sox and had my Trekology pad between me and the ground. Needless to say around 3 AM i woke up hot AF and had the bag unzipped 1/4 way the rest of the night. Im excited to get into some 10° - 20° temps and see how it really performs.

    Anyways ... pic dump.

Pretty decent haul actually. Grabbed my daughter a new 20° REI bag that will be a christmas present. A SeatoSummit Tek Towel that was half off and a pair of Hoka TrailGoats that were in the re-supply. Brand new basically for $48
