After the front gets done. Gotta get the rad support and stuff fixed first. Then it'll be shoving this thing in and getting as flat and tucked up belly as I can.

So that is kinda what this is. It's their Verso case (no longer made). It's based off the gear drive Yota cases but LH drop, originally made by someone else but TG picked it up. It's better to have the lower ratio in the main case than in front like the Verso is set up. I never liked the idea of putting a 4.7 drive in front of our 2.8 drive. There are some strength advantages to having the lower ratio in the rear (although I think that may be over hyped) but the main reason for me is 4.7 is your typical 4Lo vs the 2.8. There is a reason why all the Jeepers go bonkers over finding and getting Rubi cases with the 4.0 ratio cases. Having that as your main is a better normal use then use the 2.8 to "double it if needed". If the 4.7 is in front and you used it as your "normal" low then you are driving that 4.7 into the tcases 1:1 which is where I think the strength thing comes into play.

Makes sense to have the lower ratio be the last in the line but i really couldn't tell you if it makes a significant strength difference. The guy from Marlin crawler runs 2.27 then a 4.7 then the factory 2.57 who seems to have no issues with a 580:1 ratio.

Had to go pass emissions for the first time since doing my manual swap. They had trouble passing me because the machine kept saying that it couldn't verify data from my truck. I have a feeling that it might have something to do with the new ECU. Even though I synced the new ECU with the truck, I'm thinking that it must not rewrite the VIN and that must be the verification issue. In the end they passed my truck and I'm good for 2 yrs, but I'd like to figure out how to read/write the VIN on the ECU.

You can do it when you "flash" unless you don't have a software that can do so. The stealership should be able to.

2 day subscription to tech stream perhaps? Might be worth the money

NC either as long as all the readiness monitors are good and there is no codes it's good to go

Haha yea. Luckily they aren’t expensive or too hard to pass here. Your vehicle has to be running pretty terrible to not pass. Also we only have mechanical inspection at time of sale which is not too bad as surrounding states.

Does your R156F have a plug on the passenger side for the speedo gear? i am getting ready to swap one of these in my truck as well and am trying to figure out if the speedo is going to cause me issues

Idk. I can check tomorrow. I didn’t have to do anything for a speed sensor. My ‘14 must do it through the time rings for ABS.

Do you have any pics of the modifications you made to your transmission crossmember for the R156F?

I completely built a custom cross member. But mostly this was because my truck is a 4WD conversion too. If you are already 4WD and 5-speed, the R156 should bolt right in.

Did you have to switch out the wiring and ecu when you converted to a manual? Im about to turn my 2011 double cab 2.7 prerunner into 4x4 and manual. I have a parts truck that that I can take the wiring and ecu if need be.

I swapped the ECU and ran wires from the clutch switch to the wire harness from the transmission. It was pretty straight forward and a lot less work than swapping the whole wire harness.
