:jellydance: 5.29?!? Damn dude, that thing will CRAWL with 5.29s and 33s. You might top out at 55 on the freeway though...

I was just thinking about gears this morn, but it'll be awhile. Can't wait to make my truck slower :D

Nice! Yeah I'm probably going to step to a 35 in about 9 months.
I'm a little worried about that. I usually drive 65
    Noice.
I did! Just got yesterday. Need to pop that on the taco this week :) thanks again man, really appreciate!

i thought 4.88's in a 6cyl could handle 35's decently? might be wrong though.
    I top out at around 75/80 @ 4.2/4.5k rpm on the freeways (33's w/ 5.29's on 4cyl auto)

    33s get 4.88

    35s 5.29 all day.

Keep in mind while many often think they want 35s. It's a huge investment. New tires of course, possible new rims or spacers. And regear. And tubing.

Honestly. If it's not a RIG. 33s are the BEST tire for our trucks. Let's you use your skids too :p

Yeah 35's are fine with 4.88. I carry a lot of weight, and mostly drive in town, or to and from the Sierras so having the extra umph will probably be good. Really the truck struggled on hills when it was stock and on 31's lol.

It is a dd, but again, I really don't drive all that far. Work is like a mile away. Biggest cost after regear is the tubbing, which I am hoping to get some help with, possibly for materials plus beer and dinner :) wheels will be fine, 3.6" backspace, 8" width. Probably gonna need a spacer, thinking I'll just go with a 1.25" since I already have two of them.

I was thinking originally of going with the 4.88 cuz it can do double duty 33's or 35s... do you think 5.29 is gonna be too gnarly on the highway with 33's?

Seriously I don't see the point for you to get 35s. At all. Or most people for that matter

Stay on 33s and go 4.88s. It's perfect with the auto. I've been in and driven an auto with 4.88s that's heavy and on 33s. It's great.

For me going 65 with 5.29s and a manual with 35s is about 3200rpm. You be around that or higher with 33s.

I think if your set on 35's then you should go 5.29's. Gear changing cost is high. Driving on the freeway isn't bad with 5.29's, I have a lot of power @ 4.2k rpm going up hills (75mph) but It would be hard to go over 80. We can experiment tub my truck first as practice then do yours haha.

Thanks for the concern, but thinking I will really appreciate the extra diameter. I'll have to think a lot on the 4.88 vs 5.29.

I was wheeling with him in Moab and asking about his 5.29s and 33s. He seemed happy with the setup.

Yep. Way harder on the truck. Horrible for gas milage. Very expensive to replace too.

They work perfect for a dedicated rig. Id never run em on a dd or weekend warrior. The gains are okay but really when you look at the cost/wear/work ratio or whatever. They aren't worth it on a dd

What have you noticed to be harder on the truck in specific? Tbh I'm not super worried about gas mileage as I don't drive it enough to make a difference. And as far as per tire, with a 15" wheel I'm already well ahead of metric sized tire prices :)
