Looks good man nice choice on lift and tires! I went to gulches last weekend and tested my new suspension and tires out with my buddy and his jeep and was very impressed by the tacoma clearance and ability with just 3in lift! Would love to go to your spot though looks fun man!

    Hey Caleb,

You asked if there was rubbing with the 285's; just the smallest amount when I bottomed out and had the wheel turned. Unlikely to happen often IMO and not a deterrent for getting the 285's. I posted a picture of the area that was rubbing.

The same thing happened to my fender on the front left. It's a little loose towards where it sits above the front bumper. I bottomed out into a 2ft deep gap on a sand bar filled with water. Did you have any major damage besides the fender. My alignment is messed up so my truck is at Toyota right now

Oh crap! Nice pic of the obstacle you fell into, kinda tells the story by itself. I bet that surprised you. Good luck with realignment. No other damage from my weekend, just a $0.05 plastic clip that secures the plastic fender moulding to the metal.

Great looking truck! I can't agree more on the whoops. The icon set up eats them up. Are those the P-rated Toyo's? If so do you worry about them on rocks. I have the same tires and wonder if they're too light for climbing rocks...not that I have to worry about that too much where I live.

    Thanks. Just getting started...

The Toyos I have are LT-rated and have a ply rating of 10. Pretty solid. I am not too worried climbing rocks, I can air down a little, go slow and usually avoid the protruding sharp ones. It's the hidden sharp one around a high speed turn that worries me..that situation bit me once in the past with stock tires (Tundra). I slid into it and it took out my side wall. Since you have the Toyos too, you might double check yours to see if they are LT or P-rated, I'd be interested to know the variety Toyo makes in that size. Thanks!

My Toyos are P rated. Thats why I asked. I had several people tell me that the LT's were too heavy for a smaller truck and they would roughen up the ride substantially. Since you have the LT's what do you think?

I went over some really rocky terrain at Big Bend out here in Texas and I was pretty nervous with P rated tires.

I have not noticed any rougher of a ride. They do feel heavier while steering, but so far I've been happy with them.

Just ordered Icon bump stops and also a full sized spare. First guy I talked to about fitting 285 70 17 in the stock position said there is no way to get 33's under the bed. I went back to the shop a few weeks later and talked to another guy and he said "just did one yesterday, don't worry...we'll make it fit". That's what I wanted to hear... I really want it in the stock location. I'll let ya know how it all turns out.

Yep it can definitely be done. My 285/70/17 spare is in the stock location. I had the exhaust hangers cut and moved over, and the tabs cut off and re-welded further back. We also had to bend the pipe a bit but it fits perfectly.
