    Hey folks,

Just joined the Toyota and Tacoma families myself with my 3/20/16 purchase of a silver 2016 Taco TRD Sport with the 3.5L V6, 6 speed manual transmission at Beaverton Toyota in the Portland, OR metro area. I couldn't be any happier with my truck so far!

Anyone have an ETA on when a cold air intake will be released? it's got plenty of power, sure. I just like the sporty sound and the fuel economy boost when you don't drive like a maniac. And I don't tow much or offroad a ton so I'm not super worried about losing some low end torque.

Anyone else find 2nd gear more comfortable for flat/declined starts? 1st is fine, but 2nd prevents one extra shift.

Glad to be a part of this community.

    Z

If it's like the other Tacoma units for previous gens, it won't be worth the cost. Unless you just want to pay for the noise.

What exactly is your calculus on the cost/benefit analysis? I don't want to "pay for the noise" but if it also comes with even a modest fuel efficiency boost I'm all for it. Most of my driving is highway/commuting.

    That's up to you.

For an economy boost, what do you expect an ROI to be? 1yr? 2? So take the cost of a unit available for a '15 (for calc purposes), assume an average MPG, assume an average $gal cost, assume a mile/yr driven. Figure out how long it will take to break even based on some MPG improvement. 10% would be a liberal number, but you get the idea.

HP is a whole 'nuther study in my book. Figuring a $/HP cost is an important factor in the consideration of power adders. You'll find that most traditional bolt ons (I/H/E) come at a very high cost.

Congrats on the new truck. Post up your thoughts on the manual trans. I might go back!

    Thank you, kindly!

Love the manual transmission so far. Very smooth shifting, don't always need 1st gear around town, lots of juice above 3000RPM. I get bored driving an auto. Driving the manual forces me to shut off everything else in my brain and focus on driving. It's relaxing and improves my alertness.

Agree completely, I can't imagine myself ever NOT having at least one manual car in my possession...driving an auto just makes me feel like another sheep out there on the road partaking in the endless rat race. Having a manual actually makes me look forward to my commutes.

I know! My other cars and previous Toyota pickups before my Tacoma were stick.
I do have one, my 5 spd 95 VW Cabrio that is fun in summertime. Wintertime though would ruin it so I put it up.
Reading the 3GEN forums, owners have really liked the MT in with the new engine/trans.
Thanks for the feedback and happy modding your new rig, she is a beauty.
