The job I am in is Munitions, or as we are called Ammo Troops! Its good that you are looking into joining with the economy and all. if your going on because of college, you can have a bachelors degree in around 4-5 years. most people take that route. Basic will be very interesting, and tech school afterwards will be more fun than basic, this I promise you! If you have any questions about the Air Force, shoot me a pm and Ill answer any questions you might have.

Intel... One of the few AFSC groups that is GROWING... while most are cutting back.I would not suggest the Airborne ISR Operator (Joystick Jockey) unless you like holding sticks for hours at a time... 1N0, 1N1A, and 1N4 are the way to go. 1N1 has the max reenlistment bonus. I am a 1N1 and I love my job. but of course... no matter what you choose make sure you do your own research, not all recruiters are as honest as they should be.

Just not that big of a fan. I am leaving Alaska too. Headed down to Beale AFB. They just make the job sound a lot cooler than it is in the description.

Very true. It is a good thing you are doing your research and asking about stuff on here. Lots of good information from military on here. The Air Force can be a great experience. I have done many things and been to many places that I would never been able to do.

hahaha I really really wanted to join the army, but I was told by multiple srmy soldiers that the army has to many soldiers and not enough jobs right now aand that I would prolly not get the job i trained for.

I will end up being a officer. I am going to get college done while enlisted and become a officer a little later. I just can do anymore school right now lol.

PM me if you have any questions about Pararescue training, career field, life style... been there, done that.

having said that, i would advise against going into that career field if you are just throwing it on your jobs list cause you're a good swimmer and think the jobs sounds cool. if you are not more than 110% commited to do anything it takes to graduate from indoc you will not be successful and once you are eliminated from training the AF gives you any random job to re-class over to.

i didn't enlist in the AF because i wanted to join that branch. I joined strictly for Pararescue, that was the one and only job i wanted to do.

IS the air force even hiring? GOt a couple people in the office in the air force getting fired. "DOS Roll back".

Not a great time to be joining government work. Everyone over-hired like crazy after 9/11. Now the belt is tightening, standards going "up" (as if).

Pay and hiring freezes. Pretty insane.
I'm glad i've got tenure at this point and the wife is over 14 years. Otherwise... she'd get canned.

Oh yea, there's a line on enlistment documents where you can get stuff written in there.
Like "station at wright patterson". THey'll say they never use it. But you can get anything written in there.

Of course, who wants to listen to the whims of some BOOT!...
but if you are filling a hard to fill job.. maybe. But i seriously doubt that.

The air force will always take people in, they might just slow it down. That being said the air force is looking to down size the enlisted force by 6,500 this year, and the officer corps by 10,500. I have been in the air force for over 7 years and they have been downsizing the entire time i have been in.

If your vision is correctable to 20/20 you CAN indeed be a gunner. I know plenty who wear glasses...BUT..your vision must be below some standard (I cannot recall right now) without. If above..yeah, your DOA.

Look into other flying jobs, Loadmaster, Flight Engineer, Boom Operator..ect. I have been enlisted aircrew for 17 years and cannot imagine doing anything else. I have been to 50+ countries and had a freaking blast. I know guys in the heavy airlift community that have been to 80+ countries. Plus, you make more as a flyer.

If you want to travel, fly. If not, then pick a job that at least has good duty assignments.

Whatever you do, serving is a great thing.

...just don't be an USAF cop.....;)

Well at least you didn't include 1n3. but no, they're cutting back. If you're in 1n, you may see some people getting rolled back and out.

I have a hand full of 1ns working for me that are working for me because they're in the process of retraining or other issues. No 1n careers are taking training IN. They may still be hiring E-1-3 though.

I think you can still get into 1n3 if you want to or happen to know Pushtu or Persian or an arabic other than MSA.

1n1s may like their job. Well, I've spent a long time as a 1n. If you like your job, you've been stationed other places than I was. Which isn't hard.

YUP. They need peons. It generally goes in a big sine wave type thing. The over-hiring problems of the last 5-10 years are going to take a long time to filter out though. Slowing down promotions and imposing quality of force nonsense out of the blue. Its been very unstable the last 15-20 years. Not like the good old days. I guess that's the problem when you have a standing army and no enemies.
