What do you mean by "No 1n careers are taking training IN"? Do you mean cross training? We just had a SSgt from our office train to 1N1A, but we are already 1N2A so maybe it's because she was already in intel?

I personally love my intel job, you should look into those AFSCs. It's nice for the government to pay for your clearance so if you decide to get out you'll have that going for you. Only problem is it's a hit or miss on how much you like your job because a lot of bases do completely different missions. So you could be trained on doing something at Base "A" for 5 years then move to Base "B" and have to do a completely different job, where if you were a B-52 mechanic you'd be doing the same thing at Barksdale or Minot or Guam.

Having served in both the Army and the USAF and currently attending a training program ran by the Army, there is NO WAY IN HELL I would EVER go back into the Army.

Welcome to the top 1% of the nation, my friend! Dont go army, USAF is the way to go. I've talked to people in various branches time and time again. Every single one of them say the same thing: "The air force treats their people better than any other branch. They treat their people like gold. When the people get treated well, then they do good work. Thus, the reason why the USAF is growing so quickly compared to the other branches."

Dont get me wrong, the other branches are just as respectable. I'm going Air Force because I was born to be in the air. BUT regardless of your decision, it's a good one. Remember, no matter what branch you're in, we're all fighting for the same team.

    Good luck in your endeavors.

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
There are also a lot of people I know in my unit that were prior Army active duty or national guard that love the AF much better because of the emphasis on how they treat people.

it all comes down to what job would you rather do?

sure, the AF treats it's people better than the army i guess but your not going to be reg AF if you go PJ therefore things will be different, you'll be gone most of the time anyways so who cares

like i said the only reason i joined the AF was because that was the branch that had Pararesuce, if Pararescue had been an Army specialty then i would have joined the Army.

i could care less how much sunshine gets shot up my ass, i want a job that i'm happy doing and a job thats lets me kill bad guys and save good guys

i know what you mean matt....Im not joining the military to be treated good and have everything go my way. Im goin in cause i wanna change my life and do something worth-while. I grew up hard, so no sun shine up the ass aint gonna bother me. I just kinda feel i could be doing my job a lot sooner as a ranger than as a PJ, but i would prolly have more skills as a PJ am i right?

in terms of finishing training sooner, yes, becoming a ranger will be quicker than becoming a PJ. i'm not sure if going ranger is an entry level position like pararesuce. what i mean is you sign up, go to basic, go to infantry school and then straight to ranger school. i would not be surprised at all if you have to be operational infantry (or similar) for a few years before you can subit a request to attend ranger school. thats something a salesman (recruiter) has to answer for you, or search the interwebs.

in terms of schools that you will initially attend to become a ranger or a PJ, Pararesuce has far more specialized schools that are mandatory for all trainees to complete before becoming a PJ: indoc, SERE, combat dive, EMT, Paramedic, HALO, PJ-U (the cool stuff, shooting, fast roping, mountain climbing, atv's, small unit tactics...)

have you looked into TACP? thats a mix of both because you're in the USAF but work and live w/ Army dudes. TACP's and JTAC's can attend all kinds of cool schools: airborne, HALO, dive, air assault, ranger school

TACP is cool stuff and initial training is much schorter than Pararescue... you'll get to kill bad guys alot sooner

also, find the indoc episode of the tv series "surviving the cut". it follwed an indoc class as they went through ETD after motivation week. it was pretty good, but an hour long episode isn't going to show much of what goes on, but it still brought back memories :D

the thing that sucks about an hour long episode is it doesn't show what happens when ETD is over. we were given 7 hours to sleep until we had to report back to the school house after we finished ETD. in that 7 hours you have to wash all your BDU's, iron a set of BDU's because you always have to have a set that is inspection ready and of course during ETD we jumped in the creek and crawled in the mud in our inspection set, shine your boots, re-tape and re-lable all your pool gear, tend to all your cuts, brusies, blisters, maybe call the parents or the girl, eat eat eat and get your room back in inspection order because they trash the hell out of it when they wake you up. not sure why the guys were sleeping in tents in the tv episode, we were in the barracks... i got about 5 hours of sleep after ETD. the days after ETD are just like any other day, harder and harder. we had 3 full days of training after ETD until we had the weekend to rest. shit sucked...lol. you're a zombie that whole week.

search for TACP (Tactical Air Control Party) and check it out on the AF website. JTAC's (Joint Terminal Air Controler) are TACP's w/ more advanced training, so you would enlist as a TACP and eventually go to more school courses and advance your skills to become a JTAC
