You cannot become a JTAC without being a TACP....advanced qualification.

Good luck in the AF and thank you, and thank you to all who served.
When I had the option, it was 1973, and military service was something you avoided like the plague. I didn't dodge, but went to college. I'm sure I'd be a better person in many ways if I had joined up. Make the most of it.

Retired Air Force Command and Control (26 years on Active Duty); now a Civil Service Load Planner.

I've worked with both Army Rangers and Air Force PJs at different times during my career. Both have my utmost respect and are highly skilled professionals.

I can tell you this, my most rewarding assignment (2 tours actually) was working Air Force Rescue; AF Rescue Coordination Center peacetime, and Combat Search and Rescue in wartime. When your work results in lives saved, it just doesn't get any better.

Thank you for your desire to serve. Good luck with your decision...you can't go wrong either way.

Congratulations ! Good choice. I did my four years in the AF at Vandenberg AFB in Cali and loved every minute of it. Huge base with great diving, hunting, mountain biking and four wheeling. Besides giving you training and experience to get a job in the civilian world you'll also be able to get a VA home loan with zero down and you'll always be proud to say that you served your country. Good luck.

    PS
The Air Force seems to have the best looking chicks too.

    oil change...
aerial gunner would be cool as shit, maybe. as long as your not getting shot back at.

combat rescue or (tac p) is pretty much special ops. bad ass job, very hard to get into, plenty of people get washed out from the school for that.

vehicle maint aka motor pool - work on trucks, tow trucks, vans, anything with wheels and a motor pretty much, other than jets. Wouldnt be too bad of a job i dont think. you would have a good job skill once you get out, if you like to turn wrenches.

Munitions systems aka AMMO - I was an ammo troop for 4 years. there are like 6 or 7 shops that you can work in for ammo. if you want more info on this shoot me a PM and ill hook you up.

not sure on the other two you listed.

    GOOD LUCK! ;)

Good point. Besides being a "cool" job", your choice should give you a sense of pride and accomplishment. All jobs in the USAF can give you that if YOU feel what you're doing is making a difference.

I have been in CSAR for three years after spending 12 in airlift. I LOVED being a Loadmaster...loved it and would not change a thing about those 12 years...not a thing. Moving over to CSAR was a late in career move but I am glad I did. I enjoy the shit out of it and know that at any time, we can get called for a rescue...and it has happened. We had folks on a training mission end end up assisting on a rescue (and unfortunately) a recovery in Tucson. The second time in 45 days.

    Choose wisely......

well make sure you can get as good of a score as you can. some jobs require a higher minimum to get into them. years ago i know mine required a minimum of 70 in electronics to get in.

FE's do not require a MX background though it is recommended. I know a ton of people in the FE seat on many platforms that did not have the background. I even know some folks in CSAR that are FE's straight out of high school. It is increasingly rare but doable.

Agreed. i really like what a PJ has to offer. I know the indoc and training is like hell but i think if i did that it would change a lot for me

so if i get a job in the flight department ill make more money?? im not really in it for the money, but i do got bills to pay lol.

Flyers make flight pay.....not a ton more. There is also more opportunity to make more since you normally travel and get per diem. (A daily allowance that covers cost like eating....)

basically write down or make mental notes about everything he says. run it by us to make sure he isn't BS-ing you on anything

especially anything that has to do with indoc...recruiters never have any idea about spec tactics
